On 24 August, Russian forces launched yet another attack on Chernihiv. A drone struck a multi-storey residential block, causing a fire to break out. According to the city\u2019s military administration, there are casualties. Rescue workers, medics and other emergency services are at the scene. Local media report that a \u00abShahed\u00bb jet drone may have been used in the attack, although there is no official confirmation of the drone\u2019s type at this stage.<\/p>\n

A Russian drone struck a high-rise block in Chernihiv<\/h2>\n

The head of the Chernihiv City Police reported that a residential building had been hit at around midday Dmitry Bryzhinsky<\/strong>. The strike caused a fire. The first footage from the scene of the attack shows severe damage to the lower part of the building, debris from the structure and smoke.<\/p>\n

Units from the State Emergency Service, medical staff, law enforcement officers and municipal services are working at the scene. The clean-up operation is being hampered by heavy smoke.<\/p>\n

Initial official reports indicated that details regarding the casualties were still being confirmed. Subsequently, the MBA reported on the casualties, although their exact number and condition have not yet been specified.<\/p>\n

Locals report sightings of a \u00abShahed\u00bb drone\u00bb<\/h2>\n

Local news sources report that a multi-storey building may have been hit by a \u00abShahed\u00bb-type jet-powered attack UAV\u00bb<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Such drones<\/a> Russia has already used them in the Chernihiv region. In May, the regional police reported that they had neutralised the warhead of a downed \u00abShahed\u00bb-type strike drone.<\/p>\n

However, at the time of publication, the authorities had not yet confirmed the type of drone that struck the house on 24 August. Explosives experts may be able to establish the exact details once they have examined the debris.<\/p>\n

Chernihiv has been under attack since early this morning<\/h2>\n

The strike on the high-rise building was not the first attack on Chernihiv on 24 August.<\/p>\n

According to official information from the city authorities, around At 08:30, Russian troops attacked a critical infrastructure site<\/strong>. No one was injured at the time; the consequences of the strike were still being assessed.<\/p>\n

Rescue workers are continuing to put out the fire and inspect the damaged residential building.<\/p>\n

Details regarding the number of residents who were inside at the time of the strike, the extent of the damage and the condition of those affected are still being ascertained.<\/p>\n
