According to the National Police, they are suspected of illegally removing skin, bones, corneas and other anatomical materials from deceased donors for the manufacture of bioimplants. Investigators believe that this took place without a licence to practise medicine in the field of transplantology.<\/p>\n<div class=\"news-summary-box\">\n<p><strong>Briefly about the main points<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>According to the investigation, the deceased\u2019s belongings were seized without the necessary authorisation.<\/li>\n<li>Investigators are looking into the under-pricing in the contract and cash payments.<\/li>\n<li>Relatives may have been offered free embalming in order to obtain their consent.<\/li>\n<li>Searches were carried out at several addresses, in vehicles and on business premises.<\/li>\n<li>A motion has been filed with the court to keep the suspects in custody.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2>The investigation is examining contracts, financial records and the consent of relatives<\/h2>\n<p>According to the investigation, the scheme was formalised through contracts which specified a list of anatomical materials and the cost of services. Law enforcement officials claim that in one such contract, the official price was understated.<\/p>\n<p>The portion of the funds exceeding the specified amount was allegedly handed over to the agency\u2019s representatives in cash each month via a network of currency exchange bureaux. The manufacture of bioimplants involves the processing, preservation and packaging of anatomical material, rather than the transplantation of an organ as such.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators also established that those involved may have exploited the vulnerability of the relatives of the deceased when obtaining consent to seize the materials. According to the investigation, they were promised other services free of charge, including the embalming of the body.<\/p>\n<p>The rules governing post-mortem donation require consent to be obtained in accordance with the established procedure, whilst the handling of tissues for transplantation requires the documentation of their origin and the traceability of procedures. Suspicion does not imply proof of guilt.<\/p>\n<h2>Following the searches, the investigating authorities are requesting that the suspects be remanded in custody<\/h2>\n<p>Law enforcement officers carried out 18 simultaneous searches of the suspects\u2019 homes and vehicles, the offices of the forensic pathology bureau and the premises of a company with which it had been working.<\/p>\n<p>The head of the regional forensic pathology bureau, two forensic pathologists and a laboratory technician were informed of the allegations against them.
