The cooling of the six reactors is being maintained by emergency diesel generators, and the Agency estimates that the current fuel supply will last for approximately ten days. Without repairs to the power line or new fuel deliveries, the plant could lose its power supply entirely.

Briefly about the main points

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Station has been without an external power supply for over a week.

Six reactors are being cooled by emergency diesel generators.

The current supply of diesel fuel will last for approximately ten days.

The last available line was disconnected on 20 August.

The IAEA is calling for a ceasefire to allow repair work to take place.

The last available line went down on 20 August

The power cut began after the 330 kV «Ferosplavna-1» line was taken off the grid amid military activity on the northern bank of the Dnieper. Prior to the full-scale invasion, the station had ten external power lines; before this incident, only this line remained operational.

IAEA has been working on the seventh local ceasefire agreement since the end of 2025, which should make it possible to carry out repairs and restore the external power supply.

Fuel reserves are being replenished, but this depends on secure logistics

IAEA experts inspected most of the 20 emergency diesel generators. On Thursday and Friday, they also observed the delivery to the plant of several dozen tonnes of diesel fuel from two nearby off-site locations.

Director-General of the Agency Raphael Grossi He noted that a complete loss of power supply could occur in about ten days only if repairs to the external power line and new fuel supplies do not take place simultaneously. Consequently, the restoration of power supply depends both on the safe repair of the line and on the continuous replenishment of diesel fuel stocks.

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Station has been operating without an external power supply for over a week.
