The group is tasked with preparing proposals regarding the possible regulation and location of such businesses within the city; there is currently no ban or decision to relocate these establishments from the city centre.<\/p>\n<div class=\"news-summary-box\">\n<p><strong>Briefly about the main points<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The group will analyse the legislation and the actual operations of the institutions.<\/li>\n<li>It will examine legal, urban planning, economic and social issues.<\/li>\n<li>The catalyst was a petition calling for the relocation of these establishments from the city centre.<\/li>\n<li>The City Council did not support the petition: 23 councillors voted in favour.<\/li>\n<li>Five parliamentary groups have proposed an analysis rather than immediate restrictions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2>The group will assess the legislation and the situation on the ground<\/h2>\n<p>The working group comprises representatives from parliamentary groups, the legal department, the economic development department and the district administration. There are also plans to involve relevant executive bodies and other specialists in the work.<\/p>\n<p>The group has been tasked with carrying out a comprehensive analysis of the current legislation and examining the actual state of operations at the relevant institutions in Lviv. It will also examine the urban planning, legal, economic and social aspects of their work.<\/p>\n<p>Following the analysis, participants are to prepare agreed proposals for further consideration.<\/p>\n<h2>MPs did not support the petition calling for the relocation of the establishments<\/h2>\n<p>The debate arose following an online petition calling for sex industry establishments to be relocated outside the historic centre. It was launched by a priest from Lviv <strong>Justyn Boyko<\/strong>; within a few days, the petition had gathered the 500 signatures required for it to be considered.<\/p>\n<p>On 25 August, Lviv City Council considered the petition but did not adopt a resolution: it was supported by 23 councillors, falling short of the minimum required 33. The following day, the leaders of the five political groups approached the mayor with a proposal to set up a working group rather than immediately banning or relocating the establishments.<\/p>\n<p>One of the reasons why the petition failed to gain the necessary support was legal uncertainty regarding the city council\u2019s right to forcibly relocate a legitimate business from a specific part of the city.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lviv has set up a working group to examine sex shops and sex bars.
