Following the initial strike, three buildings caught fire, and whilst the fires were being extinguished, the Russian Federation struck the location twice more, according to the State Emergency Service. Rescue workers extinguished the fire; there were no fatalities or injuries.

Briefly about the main points

The first Russian strike caused fires and destruction in the warehouse area.

Whilst extinguishing the fire, Russian troops attacked the same location twice.

Rescue workers were operating amidst air raid alerts and the threat of further attacks.

The fire has been contained and extinguished at all the affected sites.

The fires have been put out; damage is visible on the site

Units from the State Emergency Service arrived at the scene following the explosion and began firefighting operations. The fires were successfully contained and subsequently completely extinguished at all the affected warehouse facilities.

Footage released by the service shows significant damage to the infrastructure. A lorry also burnt out near one of the warehouses.

According to the State Emergency Service, no one was killed or injured as a result of the attack.

Repeated explosions hampered the rescue workers’ efforts

Whilst clearing up the aftermath, Russian troops launched two further strikes on the site of the fire. Combined with the air raid alerts, this meant that personnel were forced to work under constant threat.

Repeated strikes on a location where emergency services are already operating pose a foreseeable risk to rescue workers and may hinder fire-fighting efforts and the inspection of the area. The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine describes such repeated attacks as «double-tap» and has documented cases of injuries and deaths among people who arrived to provide assistance following the first strike.

The Bucha district was also mentioned in reports about attacks on storage facilities in August. These incidents are separate attacks and are not included in the assessment of the consequences of the events of 1 September. The final extent of the current damage and the losses incurred are currently being assessed.

In the Kyiv region, rescue workers extinguished fires at three warehouses following a Russian strike.
