This marked the first major stage in the succession following the death of Harald V, who had reigned for 35 years. Ministers and members of parliament were present in the main chamber of the 169-seat parliament.<\/p>\n<p>After taking the oath, the King stated that he was committed to maintaining good relations between the monarchy and the people\u2019s elected representatives, and chose \u00abAlt for Norge\u00bb \u2014 \u00abEverything for Norway\u00bb \u2014 as the motto for his reign. The President of the Storting <strong>Masoud Garakhani<\/strong> said that Harald V embodied the values of liberal democracy, in particular compassion.<\/p>\n<h2>Queen Mette-Marit missed the ceremony<\/h2>\n<p>The King\u2019s wife, aged 53 <strong>Mette-Marit<\/strong>, was unable to attend the ceremony due to complications following a lung transplant carried out in June. Her doctors stated that such post-operative complications are not unusual.<\/p>\n<p>Are Holm, a pulmonologist at Oslo University Hospital, said that the Queen had been placed under medical observation for the whole day. Queen Sonja and Prince Sverre Magnus were also present at the swearing-in ceremony in the Storting.<\/p>\n<h2>The funeral of Harald V and the reaction of the Norwegian people<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/world\/pomer-korol-norvegii-garald\/\">Harald V<\/a>, who died aged 89 whilst undergoing treatment for haemolytic anaemia, will be buried on 9 September in Oslo. Heads of state from various countries have been invited to the ceremony. Following the service at the cathedral, a private ceremony is planned at the church within Akershus Fortress, where the royal mausoleum is located.<\/p>\n<p>A period of national mourning has been declared in Norway until the funeral is over. Tens of thousands of people have brought flowers, drawings, candles and flags to the Royal Palace. According to a poll conducted for the public broadcaster NRK, around 72% of respondents support the monarchy \u2014 compared with 54% in May and 60% in February.<\/p>\n<h2>There will be no coronation, but a consecration may take place in Trondheim<\/h2>\n<p>Norway will not hold a formal coronation for the new king and queen: the country abandoned this ceremony over a century ago. However, Haakon VIII may, like his father and grandfather, choose to be consecrated at Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim.<\/p>\n<p>Such a consecration is not a constitutional requirement and does not affect the monarch\u2019s accession to the throne.
