Huawei has unveiled <strong data-start=\"634\" data-end=\"646\">Mate XT2<\/strong> \u2014 a smartphone with a display that folds in two places and, when fully unfolded, effectively turns into a small tablet. Xiaomi has taken a more traditional approach and unveiled a clamshell <strong data-start=\"836\" data-end=\"854\">Xiaomi 18 Fold<\/strong>, focusing on performance, a large battery and a compact design.<\/p>\n<div class=\"news-summary-box\"><strong>Briefly about the main points<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Huawei has unveiled the Mate XT2, a dual-folding smartphone.<\/li>\n<li>Its price starts at around $2980.<\/li>\n<li>The Xiaomi 18 Fold will cost from around $1540.<\/li>\n<li>Xiaomi has launched a 6,000 mAh battery.<\/li>\n<li>Apple may unveil its first foldable device as early as 9 September.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-section-id=\"gpj81m\" data-start=\"1341\" data-end=\"1399\">The Huawei Mate XT2 folds in half and costs nearly $3000<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1401\" data-end=\"1614\">The most unusual new product was <strong data-start=\"1436\" data-end=\"1455\">Huawei Mate XT2<\/strong>. Its large, flexible display has two fold lines, allowing the device to be used in several different configurations \u2014 from a smartphone to a tablet.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1616\" data-end=\"1899\">The model has been fitted with a new processor <strong data-start=\"1647\" data-end=\"1665\">Kirin 9050 Pro<\/strong>, a redesigned hinge, improved water resistance and updated cameras. Huawei also offers a version with <strong data-start=\"1763\" data-end=\"1782\">privacy screen<\/strong>, which narrows the viewing angles: it is more difficult for people sitting to the side to see the information on the screen.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1901\" data-end=\"2128\">Huawei states that the overall performance of the Mate XT2 is approximately <strong data-start=\"1963\" data-end=\"1978\">42% higher<\/strong>, compared with its predecessor. This is the company\u2019s own assessment; independent tests of the device have yet to reveal the actual difference.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2130\" data-end=\"2179\">The price also underlines the smartphone\u2019s premium status:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2181\" data-end=\"2275\">\n<li data-section-id=\"u1rmyq\" data-start=\"2181\" data-end=\"2231\">basic version \u2014 <strong data-start=\"2199\" data-end=\"2230\">19,999 yuan, approximately $2980<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"135sn5f\" data-start=\"2232\" data-end=\"2275\">top \u2014 <strong data-start=\"2243\" data-end=\"2274\">24,999 yuan, approximately $3725<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2277\" data-end=\"2364\">Sales in China are set to begin <strong data-start=\"2311\" data-end=\"2325\">12 September<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1p1uqdw\" data-start=\"2366\" data-end=\"2405\">The Xiaomi 18 Fold is almost half the price<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2407\" data-end=\"2496\">Xiaomi has unveiled a more conventional clamshell-style foldable smartphone \u2014 <strong data-start=\"2477\" data-end=\"2495\">Xiaomi 18 Fold<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2498\" data-end=\"2670\">When closed, it functions as a compact smartphone, and when opened, it offers <strong data-start=\"2578\" data-end=\"2619\">7.58-inch internal OLED display<\/strong>. The external screen has a diagonal of approximately 5.38 inches.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2672\" data-end=\"2947\">One of its distinctive features is the wide body shape \u2014 the aspect ratio is close to 1.4:1. As a result, the internal display is more like a small tablet and is better suited to watching videos, reading and using several apps at once.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2949\" data-end=\"3063\">When unfolded, the smartphone can display the following at the same time <strong data-start=\"3000\" data-end=\"3024\">up to three applications<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1a66ydo\" data-start=\"3065\" data-end=\"3113\">A 6,000 mAh battery and Xiaomi\u2019s own processor<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3115\" data-end=\"3166\">Another strong point of the Xiaomi 18 Fold is its battery.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3168\" data-end=\"3376\">The smartphone has been equipped with <strong data-start=\"3185\" data-end=\"3236\">a silicon-carbon battery with a capacity of 6,000 mAh<\/strong>, which is a high figure for a foldable device. Fast wired and wireless charging are supported.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3378\" data-end=\"3567\">Performance is handled by its own processor <strong data-start=\"3424\" data-end=\"3436\">XRing O3<\/strong>. Xiaomi continues to reduce its reliance on third-party chip developers, whilst simultaneously developing its own semiconductor platform.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3569\" data-end=\"3695\">The camera consists of three modules and was developed as part of a partnership <strong data-start=\"3637\" data-end=\"3656\">Xiaomi and Leica<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3697\" data-end=\"3729\">The prices are significantly lower than Huawei\u2019s:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3731\" data-end=\"3856\"><strong data-start=\"3731\" data-end=\"3767\">from 10,999 yuan \u2014 approximately $1540<\/strong>, whilst the most expensive configuration costs approximately $2100.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3858\" data-end=\"4013\">Pre-orders in China will begin on 10 September. The company has not yet announced the global launch of the Xiaomi 18 Fold.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1nbpal9\" data-start=\"4015\" data-end=\"4071\">Huawei dominates the Chinese foldable market<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4073\" data-end=\"4137\">One particularly important factor is Huawei\u2019s position in its home market.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4139\" data-end=\"4340\">According to data from Smart Analytics Global, as reported by Reuters, in the second quarter of 2026 Huawei controlled approximately <strong data-start=\"4254\" data-end=\"4299\">68% shipments of foldable smartphones in China<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4342\" data-end=\"4526\">Across the entire Chinese smartphone market, Huawei was also the market leader with a share of <strong data-start=\"4417\" data-end=\"4426\">22,6%<\/strong>, whilst Apple had 18.1% and Xiaomi had 12.4%, according to IDC.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4528\" data-end=\"4654\">It is China that could become one of the key battlegrounds for Apple if the company does indeed unveil its first foldable iPhone.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"186x1d7\" data-start=\"4656\" data-end=\"4694\">Apple may respond as early as 9 September<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4696\" data-end=\"4813\">The most interesting thing about the launch of Huawei and Xiaomi is that it took place <strong data-start=\"4760\" data-end=\"4812\">just before Apple\u2019s presentation on 9 September<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4815\" data-end=\"5065\">One of the main highlights of the event is expected to be the first <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/science-tech\/apple-event-2026-iphone-fold-18-pro-siri\/\">foldable iPhone<\/a>. Analysts are forecasting the price <strong data-start=\"4930\" data-end=\"4945\">over $2500<\/strong>, which will place it between the Xiaomi 18 Fold and the most expensive versions of the Huawei Mate XT2.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5067\" data-end=\"5222\">Apple has not yet officially confirmed the foldable iPhone itself, its name or its specifications, so until the launch, this information remains the subject of market speculation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5224\" data-end=\"5486\">According to analysts\u2019 forecasts, Apple\u2019s entry into the market could significantly transform the entire sector. Foldable devices currently remain a niche segment of global smartphone sales, but the launch of the iPhone could dramatically boost interest in this form factor.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"typjve\" data-start=\"5488\" data-end=\"5520\">Samsung is still in the running too<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"5522\" data-end=\"5637\">At a global level, the key player in the sector remains <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/science-tech\/samsung-galaxy-z-trifold-multy-skladnyy\/\">Samsung<\/a> with the series <strong data-start=\"5602\" data-end=\"5636\">Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5639\" data-end=\"5802\">It is Samsung that has been promoting foldable smartphones outside China for years, whilst Huawei, due to US restrictions, is focusing much more heavily on the Chinese market.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5804\" data-end=\"5834\">Competition is now becoming more widespread:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5836\" data-end=\"6078\"><strong data-start=\"5836\" data-end=\"5847\">Samsung<\/strong> \u2014 extensive experience and global distribution;<br data-start=\"5889\" data-end=\"5892\" \/><strong data-start=\"5892\" data-end=\"5902\">Huawei<\/strong> \u2014 dual-fold technology and market dominance in China;<br data-start=\"5960\" data-end=\"5963\" \/><strong data-start=\"5963\" data-end=\"5973\">Xiaomi<\/strong> \u2014 a lower price and impressive specifications;<br data-start=\"6011\" data-end=\"6014\" \/><strong data-start=\"6014\" data-end=\"6023\">Apple<\/strong> \u2014 a potentially vast ecosystem of iPhone users.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6080\" data-end=\"6238\">If expectations regarding the first foldable iPhone are confirmed on 9 September, the foldable smartphone market could receive its biggest boost ever.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1ojzv5h\" data-start=\"6240\" data-end=\"6305\">Xiaomi, Huawei or the upcoming iPhone Fold \u2014 who\u2019s in the best position?<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"6307\" data-end=\"6440\">On paper, Xiaomi is making a very competitive offer: <strong data-start=\"6375\" data-end=\"6439\">6,000 mAh, large OLED screen, proprietary processor and a price starting from $1540<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6442\" data-end=\"6572\">Huawei is in a league of its own. The Mate XT2 is more of a technological showcase of the company\u2019s capabilities, with a price tag of nearly $3000.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6574\" data-end=\"6874\">Apple is unlikely to try to outdo its competitors with the highest specs.
