According to the PISA-2025 results, presented on 8 September in Kyiv, 54% of the pupils surveyed use them at least once a week, compared with 46% in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries.

Briefly about the main points

54% of the pupils surveyed use AI for learning every week.

The average figure for OECD countries is 46%.

78% pupils assess information generated by chatbots, at least occasionally.

PISA does not assess pupils’ academic integrity.

The results cover 17 regions of Ukraine.

What tasks do pupils use chatbots for?

In the measurement PISA We are talking about AI chatbots, such as ChatGPT. The learning practices examined included helping with learning, summarising what had been read, searching for information on a new topic and preparing texts.

The most significant gap compared with the OECD average was observed in the assessment of the quality of information generated by AI: 78% pupils in Ukraine do this at least occasionally, compared with 63% in OECD countries.

When it comes to preparing texts, 43% of the Ukrainian pupils surveyed use artificial intelligence, compared with 29% in the OECD. 42% summarise texts using AI, compared with 30%, whilst 37% search for information using AI, compared with 31%, respectively.

Frequency of use does not measure independent learning

Head of the Analytics Department at the Ukrainian Centre for Educational Quality Assessment Hanna Bychko She said that pupils make active use of AI in all lessons, in particular by completing tasks that specifically involve working with such technologies.

The Ukrainian Centre for Educational Quality Assessment (UCEQA) emphasised that a high frequency of use cannot be unequivocally assessed as a positive or negative phenomenon. PISA 2025 does not measure academic integrity; therefore, these data do not provide an answer as to the extent to which pupils complete tasks independently.

The indicators are based on pupils’ responses to questionnaires, rather than on chatbot activity logs. The OECD advises caution when interpreting international differences in self-assessments, as these may be influenced by how the questions are understood, cultural norms and the style of responses. At the same time, AI responses need to be checked due to the risk of errors, false claims and unverified information.

Which part of Ukraine was covered by the PISA 2025 study?

Due to the security situation, the survey was carried out in 17 of Ukraine’s 27 regions where it was possible to organise it. The figures given therefore reflect the situation among pupils in the regions surveyed, rather than among all schoolchildren in the country.

The study involved 297 educational institutions and nearly 9,000 pupils; however, the results presented are based on data from approximately 7,000 respondents.

PISA is coordinated by the OECD. The study assesses the mathematical, reading and scientific literacy of 15-year-old pupils in over 80 countries and economies.

According to PISA 2025, pupils in the regions of Ukraine covered by the study are more likely to use AI chatbots for learning than the OECD average.

За PISA-2025, учні досліджених регіонів України частіше користуються ШІ-чатботами для навчання, ніж у середньому в ОЕСР.
[806778
806775
post-28910","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-suspilstvo","tag-806775
["GET
