Last year, around 40,000 pilgrims visited the town.<\/p>\n<h2>Order is being maintained by Ukrainian and Israeli law enforcement officers<\/h2>\n<p>Seventeen members of the Israeli police are working alongside their Ukrainian colleagues in Uman. They patrol the streets and help to maintain public order.<\/p>\n<p>According to Michael Singerman, some Israeli police officers are meeting pilgrims arriving from Israel and escorting them towards the Ukrainian border. The National Police, the National Guard, the State Emergency Service, border guards, the Migration Service and other agencies are also involved in the operation.<\/p>\n<h2>Checkpoints and traffic restrictions are in place in the pilgrimage district<\/h2>\n<p>Stricter access controls have been introduced in the area where pilgrims are concentrated. People and vehicles are being checked at the entrances, and there are permanent checkpoints and baggage screening points in operation. Some of the checkpoints have been equipped with scanners and metal detectors.<\/p>\n<p>The streets are being patrolled by foot and vehicle patrols. Special restrictions on the entry, exit and movement of vehicles within the city will remain in place from 4 to 17 September; additional checkpoints have been set up on certain streets and traffic has been restricted.<\/p>\n<h2>The police report that the situation is under control<\/h2>\n<p>As of 9 September, no significant incidents had been reported in Uman, according to law enforcement officials. Ukrainian and Israeli police officers are explaining to pilgrims the rules for staying in Ukraine, including what to do during air raid alerts.<\/p>\n<p>Additional security measures take into account the risk of Russian missile and drone attacks, as well as terrorist threats, acts of sabotage and provocations.
