Each of the 2,977 drones symbolised one person who lost their life in the attacks. The display began with a spiral of lights, after which the lights formed the architectural outlines of skyscrapers.<\/p>\n<p>The project is a one-off event. It should not be confused with the annual <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/world\/tramp-planuye-arku-vyshchu-za-memorial-linkolna\/\">a memorial<\/a> Tribute in Light \u2014 two vertical beams of light over Lower Manhattan.<\/p>\n<h2>How New York is marking the 25th anniversary of the attacks<\/h2>\n<p>On 11 September 2001, Al-Qaeda militants hijacked four passenger aeroplanes and flew them into the towers in New York and the Pentagon. A total of 265 passengers and crew members were killed, along with 2,606 people at the World Trade Centre and 125 Pentagon employees. The attacks sparked a global war <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/world\/trump-iran-war-end-after-election\/\">USA<\/a> against terrorism and the invasion of Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>The main ceremony at the National 9\/11 Memorial and Museum in Lower Manhattan will include the reading of the names of the victims by their relatives.
