According to the investigation, he was detained at a bank in the Pechersk district whilst receiving an advance payment of $3.8 million.<\/p>\n<div class=\"news-summary-box\"><strong>Briefly about the main points<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The lawyer allegedly demanded $5 million to \u00abclose\u00bb the criminal case.<\/li>\n<li>He was arrested whilst receiving an advance payment of $3.8 million.<\/li>\n<li>The arrest took place at a bank in the Pechersk district of Kyiv.<\/li>\n<li>He faces up to 8 years\u2019 imprisonment and the confiscation of his property.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-section-id=\"l3oa14\" data-start=\"800\" data-end=\"856\">He promised to \u00absort things out\u00bb with the police in return for $5 million<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"858\" data-end=\"985\">According to the investigation\u2019s findings, the lawyer offered the person involved in the criminal proceedings <strong data-start=\"943\" data-end=\"960\">5 million USD<\/strong> to secure its closure.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"987\" data-end=\"1105\">He allegedly tried to convince the client that he was able to influence the law enforcement agencies and ensure the desired outcome.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1107\" data-end=\"1321\">Among the promises made by the lawyer, law enforcement officers cite <strong data-start=\"1170\" data-end=\"1263\">preventing the person concerned from being placed on an international wanted list and the forwarding of information to Interpol<\/strong>, as well as preventing the freezing of bank accounts and assets.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1323\" data-end=\"1429\">The investigation is determining whether the suspect did indeed have the relevant connections and who else may have been involved in the scheme.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"gv2arj\" data-start=\"1431\" data-end=\"1462\">Arrested with $3.8 million in the bank<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1464\" data-end=\"1570\">The operation was carried out by SBU officers in conjunction with the State Bureau of Investigations and the Office of the Prosecutor General.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1572\" data-end=\"1719\">The lawyer was detained <strong data-start=\"1591\" data-end=\"1664\">at a bank in the Pechersk district of Kyiv whilst receiving $3.8 million<\/strong>, which were to constitute an advance payment on the total amount.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1721\" data-end=\"1821\">The photographs released by the SBU show several large bags and rucksacks filled with bundles of dollars.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1823\" data-end=\"2004\">According to the police, after receiving the money, the lawyer planned to <strong data-start=\"1890\" data-end=\"1928\">to exchange the banknotes handed over for others<\/strong>, in order to make it more difficult to trace the origin of the funds and to cover up the transaction.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"12cs5lk\" data-start=\"2006\" data-end=\"2040\">The lawyer was notified that he was under suspicion<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2042\" data-end=\"2200\">Following his arrest, the man was informed that he was under suspicion. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement officers establishing all the circumstances and identifying any other possible participants in the scheme.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2202\" data-end=\"2307\">If a solicitor is found guilty in court <strong data-start=\"2240\" data-end=\"2306\">is punishable by up to eight years\u2019 imprisonment with confiscation of property<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2309\" data-end=\"2391\">A person is presumed innocent until a court\u2019s conviction becomes final.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"jrl7bl\" data-start=\"2393\" data-end=\"2437\">Law enforcement officers are investigating possible links<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2439\" data-end=\"2561\">A separate line of inquiry should be devoted to verifying the lawyer\u2019s claims regarding the possibility of influencing the course of the criminal proceedings.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2563\" data-end=\"2695\">Law enforcement agencies need to establish whether this was merely a case of the suspect being deceived, or whether other individuals may have been involved in a possible scheme.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2697\" data-end=\"2866\">The amount in <strong
