The Dnipropetrovsk Regional Prosecutor\u2019s Office and the Security Service of Ukraine are carrying out more than 250 authorised searches in various regions as part of an investigation into the illegal manufacture and sale of the counterfeit weight-loss drug Biopatid. Law enforcement officers are investigating the suspected activities of an organised group; they have promised to provide details of the operation once the initial investigative measures have been completed.<\/p>\n
Briefly about the main points<\/strong><\/p>\n According to law enforcement authorities, the group\u2019s members are suspected of the unlawful manufacture and sale of a knowingly counterfeit medicinal product. The case has been classified under Part 3 of Article 28 and Part 2 of Article 321-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine \u2014 the commission of a crime by an organised group, as well as the counterfeiting or distribution of counterfeit medicines.<\/p>\n The Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office has announced that it will publish the results once the initial measures have been completed.<\/p>\n In January 2026, the State Service of Ukraine for Medicines and Drug Control received information from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) regarding the detection of counterfeit and unregistered Biopatid (TIRZEPATIDE) 60 mg\/2 ml in circulation. The ban applied to batch 9922, which was labelled with an expiry date of 18 November 2027 and bore the manufacturer\u2019s name UNIKKA PHARMA LTDA.<\/p>\n According to the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Medical Devices, this product has not been officially imported into Ukraine. The regulator has banned its sale, storage and use, and has required businesses to remove the product from circulation \u2014 either by returning it to the supplier or by destroying it.<\/p>\n The agency emphasised that, due to the unknown origin and conditions of transport and storage, it is impossible to confirm the quality and safety of the product. Such products may pose a threat to people\u2019s lives and health, the regulator warned.<\/p>\n In Ukraine, Biopatid was sold and advertised as an injectable treatment for weight management and metabolism. Some websites offered versions with concentrations of 10, 40 and 60 mg. In 2025, the product was also publicly promoted for weight management, and advertising materials linked its action to GLP-1 and GIP receptors.<\/p>\n At the same time, the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Medical Devices has determined that only Biopatid 60 mg\/2 ml, batch 9922, has the official status of a counterfeit and unregistered medicinal product.
