The President\u2019s statement came on 14 September, shortly after Kravchenko announced that a notice of suspicion had been signed against NABU Director Semen Kryvonos and claimed he was under political pressure. According to him, the question of whether Ruslan Kravchenko will remain in office has already been decided.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1267\" data-end=\"1571\">\n<p data-start=\"1269\" data-end=\"1571\">\u00abThere is only one course of action for this Prosecutor General: dismissal from office. That is exactly what I told him. Ukraine has seen all the reasons. If he considers this to be political pressure, let him call it that. I ask Members of Parliament to support this dismissal without delay,\u00bb said Zelenskyy.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"1573\" data-end=\"1693\">In this way, the President effectively appealed directly to the parliamentary majority, urging them not to delay the vote.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1799\" data-end=\"1846\" data-section-id=\"1wod0gz\">The statement was made following allegations against the director of NABU<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1848\" data-end=\"2011\">Political tensions escalated sharply that very morning following <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/suspilstvo\/ruslan-kravchenko-vidstavka-genprokuror\/\">statements<\/a> Ruslana Kravchenko on the fact that he <strong data-start=\"1941\" data-end=\"2010\">signed a notice of suspicion against NABU Director Semen Kryvonos<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2013\" data-end=\"2230\">Kravchenko also claimed that the President had previously prevented him from taking such a step. It was following this that Zelenskyy issued a statement calling for the immediate dismissal of the Prosecutor General.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2232\" data-end=\"2393\">Consequently, the conflict between the leadership of the Office of the Prosecutor General and the anti-corruption bodies, which has been ongoing for the past few weeks, has now escalated into a direct public confrontation.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"2395\" data-end=\"2438\" data-section-id=\"15ys1fk\">Kravchenko resigned as early as 7 September<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2440\" data-end=\"2507\">Ruslan Kravchenko announced his resignation this evening <strong data-start=\"2493\" data-end=\"2506\">7 September<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2509\" data-end=\"2693\">At the time, he described the decision as political and stated that he did not want the post of Attorney General to be used as a tool in political confrontation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2695\" data-end=\"2980\">Prior to that, Kravchenko had met with <strong>Zelensky<\/strong> and leader of the \u00abServant of the People\u00bb parliamentary group\u00bb <strong>David Arahamia<\/strong>. According to sources at \u00abUkrainska Pravda\u00bb, the decision regarding his continued tenure in office was to be taken following this conversation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2982\" data-end=\"3073\">Not long before that, Kravchenko had publicly stated that he had no plans to resign voluntarily.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"3075\" data-end=\"3129\" data-section-id=\"1dvuvzi\">Operation \u00abCarthage\u00bb was the cause of the political crisis\u00bb<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3131\" data-end=\"3234\">The Attorney General\u2019s resignation came against the backdrop of a large-scale <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/suspilstvo\/vaks-ivakhnenko-muza-zastava-karfagen\/\">investigation<\/a> NABU and SAP under the name <strong data-start=\"3219\" data-end=\"3233\">\u00abCarthage\u00bb<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3236\" data-end=\"3422\">On 5 September, the anti-corruption authorities announced that they had uncovered a criminal organisation which, according to the investigation, was headed by one of the heads of a department within the Office of the Prosecutor General.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3424\" data-end=\"3650\">The NABU claims that those involved in the scheme systematically received undue benefits from fraudulent call centres in exchange for not interfering with their operations, and also laundered assets worth millions.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3652\" data-end=\"3840\">According to the investigation, the criminal organisation was set up as early as mid-2025, and current staff members of the public prosecutor\u2019s office and their associates were drawn into its activities.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3842\" data-end=\"3961\">It was following the publication of the articles in *Carthage* that a heated political debate broke out concerning the leadership of the Office of the Prosecutor General.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"3963\" data-end=\"4015\" data-section-id=\"f0kktj\">A single statement from Kravchenko is not enough to secure his dismissal<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4017\" data-end=\"4146\">Despite having submitted his resignation, Kravchenko formally remains in office as Attorney General until the procedure laid down by law has been completed.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4148\" data-end=\"4427\">Under the Law \u00abOn the Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office\u00bb, <strong data-start=\"4185\" data-end=\"4294\">The President submits a written request to the Verkhovna Rada seeking consent to dismiss the Prosecutor General<\/strong>. His powers shall cease from the moment the relevant parliamentary resolution comes into force.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4487\" data-end=\"4658\">As early as 9 September, sources at \u00abUkrainska Pravda\u00bb reported that Kravchenko\u2019s resignation letter had not yet been received by the Verkhovna Rada.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"4660\" data-end=\"4716\" data-section-id=\"1o7r3e3\">The conflict between the NABU and the Office of the Prosecutor General has escalated sharply<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4718\" data-end=\"4778\">The events of 14 September effectively brought together two high-profile stories at once.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4780\" data-end=\"4964\">On the one hand, the NABU and the SAP are investigating a suspected criminal organisation within the Office of the Prosecutor General. On the other hand, Kravchenko himself, ahead of his expected dismissal, signed a notice of suspicion against the head of the NABU.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4966\" data-end=\"5190\">Following this, Zelenskyy made it publicly clear that there would be no change in his stance regarding the Prosecutor General: <strong data-start=\"5057\" data-end=\"5149\">Kravchenko must step down, and the
