Jonathan Powell, the UK Prime Minister\u2019s National Security Adviser, has stated that the so-called \u00abAnchorage compromise\u00bb on ending Russia\u2019s war against Ukraine is no longer a basis for negotiations. Speaking at the YES meeting in Kyiv, he said that Moscow cannot consider the transfer of Ukrainian territories to Russia and Kyiv\u2019s renunciation of NATO membership to have been agreed with the US.<\/p>\n

It was proposed that the front line in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions be effectively frozen.<\/p>\n Russia also demanded that Ukraine abandon its intention to join NATO<\/a> and agree to neutral status. Reuters reported in August 2025 that these demands remained part of Russia\u2019s position following the summit. Kyiv rejected the handover of unoccupied territories in the Donetsk region and other unilateral concessions.<\/p>\n In the months that followed, Russian officials repeatedly referred to the framework for a settlement established in Anchorage.
