Following the arrest of two suspects, the police received a list containing <strong data-start=\"613\" data-end=\"647\">513,847 Gmail addresses and passwords<\/strong>, which, according to the investigation, had been used by the network since 2022. The threats also targeted countries that had cooperated with India during the BRICS summit in New Delhi. Law enforcement agencies subsequently established that the message was false.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1600\" data-end=\"1773\">During the operation, the police arrested two men from Bihar and Jharkhand. Following their questioning, the investigators obtained a list of <strong data-start=\"1715\" data-end=\"1772\">513,847 Gmail email addresses and their corresponding passwords<\/strong>. The local police have not yet established exactly how many of these accounts were used specifically to make bomb threats, and how many may have been used in other cybercrimes.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"13e8tpe\" data-start=\"2003\" data-end=\"2050\">Google is to be questioned over its security system<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2052\" data-end=\"2162\">One of the key questions in the investigation is how the criminal network managed to create and maintain such a large number of accounts.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2164\" data-end=\"2396\">Vivek Bheda, a spokesperson for the Gujarat Cyber Police, told Reuters that the police plan to approach <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/science-tech\/google-gemini-omni-search-youtube-ai\/\">Google.<\/a> demanding an explanation, <strong data-start=\"2295\" data-end=\"2357\">how the security measures could have been circumvented on such a scale<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2398\" data-end=\"2504\">What particularly caught the investigators\u2019 attention was that the suspicious accounts were using <strong data-start=\"2473\" data-end=\"2503\">two-factor authentication<\/strong>. The police want to find out how the organisers of the scheme were able to activate an additional layer of protection for hundreds of thousands of profiles, and whether Google\u2019s policies can be amended to make it more difficult to scale up such mechanisms.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2759\" data-end=\"2941\">At the time of publication, Google had not provided Reuters with an immediate comment. It is also not yet known whether the companies could face any legal sanctions.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1eh86wt\" data-start=\"2943\" data-end=\"2991\">Some of the accounts may have been sold to Bangladesh<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2993\" data-end=\"3079\">According to the investigation, part of <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/science-tech\/shcho-robyty-yakshcho-zlamaly-telegram-gmail-instagram\/\">Gmail accounts<\/a> could <strong data-start=\"3042\" data-end=\"3078\">to be sold to customers in Bangladesh<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3081\" data-end=\"3283\">Law enforcement officials claim that one of those arrested was in contact with a buyer who purchased accounts in batches. Some of the payments were allegedly made in cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3285\" data-end=\"3542\">Indian investigators are also looking into possible links to other cybercrimes. Google has previously come under scrutiny from Indian regulators over instances of the platform being used <strong data-start=\"3459\" data-end=\"3471\">Firebase<\/strong> in financial fraud schemes.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"14v5idj\" data-start=\"3544\" data-end=\"3607\">Google has already warned of fraudsters creating accounts on a massive scale<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3609\" data-end=\"3786\">Back in June, Google itself reported that criminal groups were using <strong data-start=\"3677\" data-end=\"3715\">bulk account creation<\/strong> for campaigns in which fraudsters pose as government agencies and law enforcement officers. The company stated at the time that fraudsters were registering large numbers of Google accounts, creating email addresses that resembled official ones, and then using them for phishing, fake invitations and extortion.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3609\" data-end=\"3786\">Google has emphasised that it uses multi-layered systems to detect and block such networks. However, the current incident in Gujarat has become one of the largest known cases in which the police gained access to a database containing over half a million accounts.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4264\" data-end=\"4399\">The investigation is ongoing.
