President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that three military transport aircraft and three helicopters had been confirmed as having been hit in Rostov. The Yaroslavl Oil Refinery was attacked as part of a joint operation by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) and the Foreign Intelligence Service.<\/p>\n<div class=\"news-summary-box\"><strong>Key points at a glance:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The SBU attacked a military airfield in Rostov.<\/li>\n<li>It has been confirmed that six aircraft have been hit.<\/li>\n<li>These include an An-12 and two An-26s.<\/li>\n<li>Three helicopters have also been hit.<\/li>\n<li>The defence forces attacked the Yaroslavl oil refinery.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" dir=\"auto\" data-section-id=\"aa5n8t\" data-start=\"833\" data-end=\"879\">Six aircraft have been hit at the airfield in Rostov<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"881\" data-end=\"989\">According to the President of Ukraine, the Security Service carried out a precise operation at the military airfield in Rostov-on-Don.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"991\" data-end=\"1181\"><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/SBUkr\/18637\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Confirmed<\/a> damage <strong data-start=\"1013\" data-end=\"1094\">an An-12 military transport aircraft, two An-26 aircraft and three helicopters<\/strong>. The types of helicopters involved have not yet been specified.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"1183\" data-end=\"1516\">Last night, Russian and monitoring sources reported a series of explosions in Rostov-on-Don. OSINT channels geolocated the fire near the military airfield <strong data-start=\"1348\" data-end=\"1382\">\u00abRostov-on-Don \u2013 Central\u00bb<\/strong>. The footage released showed a major fire, and there were also reports of repeated explosions.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"1518\" data-end=\"1607\">The airfield is used by the Russian military air force, in particular by transport aircraft.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"auto\" data-section-id=\"1frw349\" data-start=\"1609\" data-end=\"1648\">The Yaroslavl Oil Refinery was attacked at the same time<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"1650\" data-end=\"1756\">That same night, the Ukrainian Defence Forces carried out a joint operation against <strong data-start=\"1714\" data-end=\"1755\">Yaroslavl Oil Refinery<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"1758\" data-end=\"1911\">According to Zelenskyy, the following were involved in the attack <strong data-start=\"1805\" data-end=\"1872\">The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) and the Foreign Intelligence Service<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"1913\" data-end=\"2212\">Evidence of damage <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/main-news\/jaroslavl-on-fire-drones-have-been-set-on-fire\/\">Oil refinery<\/a> This was also confirmed by the Russian side. The Governor of the Yaroslavl Region <strong>Mikhail Evraev<\/strong> reported fires and damage at an oil refinery following a drone attack. According to him, Russian air defences allegedly shot down 65 drones over the region.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2214\" data-end=\"2434\">It was clear from the photographs and videos from Yaroslavl that <strong data-start=\"2260\" data-end=\"2317\">a massive blaze and a column of smoke rising above the industrial estate<\/strong>. Russian monitoring channels have identified the facility as the \u00abSlavneft-YANOS\u00bb oil refinery.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"auto\" data-section-id=\"1x3qs11\" data-start=\"2436\" data-end=\"2488\">The Yaroslavl refinery is one of the largest oil refineries in Russia<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2490\" data-end=\"2557\">\u00abSlavneft-YANOS\u00bb is one of the major oil refineries in the Russian Federation.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2559\" data-end=\"2779\">Its rated power is approximately <strong data-start=\"2605\" data-end=\"2633\">15 million tonnes of oil per year<\/strong>. The plant produces petrol, diesel and aviation fuel, lubricants, bitumen, liquefied gases and other petroleum products.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2781\" data-end=\"3019\">The facility has already been the target of Ukrainian long-range attacks on several occasions. The SBU has previously stated that strikes against Russian fuel infrastructure are aimed at reducing the Russian Federation\u2019s military and economic potential.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3021\" data-end=\"3214\">In August, following one of the previous attacks on the factory, a major fire also broke out. Reuters estimated its intensity at approximately <strong data-start=\"3146\" data-end=\"3175\">300,000 barrels per day<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"auto\" data-section-id=\"10higpu\" data-start=\"3216\" data-end=\"3253\">Attacks on Russian oil refineries have intensified<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3255\" data-end=\"3348\">The attack on the Yaroslavl oil refinery took place against the backdrop of a series of strikes against the Russian oil refining industry.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3350\" data-end=\"3664\">According to Reuters, as of mid-September <strong data-start=\"3396\" data-end=\"3526\">Half of Russia\u2019s largest diesel fuel producers have cut back or halted part of their production following drone attacks<\/strong>. Moscow was forced to restrict exports of certain types of fuel in order to stabilise the domestic market.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3666\" data-end=\"3810\">It was also reported yesterday that the Syzran and <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/world\/drony-atakuvaly-saratovskyi-npz\/\">Saratov Oil Refinery<\/a> following the injuries sustained.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3812\" data-end=\"3991\">Consequently, the night-time operation on 17 September affected the following at the same time <strong data-start=\"3870\" data-end=\"3927\">Russian military aviation and fuel infrastructure<\/strong>.
