Lawyer Oleg Shram stated that he had been unable to find Kalenyuk in the Unified Register of Lawyers of Ukraine and asked on what grounds she was referred to as a lawyer in certain publications. At the same time, verified official pages of the CPC currently present Kalenyuk as an executive director with a legal education, whilst *Ukrainska Pravda* refers to her as a lawyer.<\/p>\n<div class=\"news-summary-box\"><strong>Key points at a glance:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lawyer Oleg Shram raised a question regarding Kalenyuk\u2019s status.<\/li>\n<li>He stated that he could not find her in the register of lawyers.<\/li>\n<li>The CPC describes Kalenyuk as a specialist with a legal background.<\/li>\n<li>No public number for Kalenyuk\u2019s solicitor\u2019s licence has been found.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" dir=\"auto\" data-section-id=\"1fuain3\" data-start=\"1091\" data-end=\"1138\">Schram stated that he had not found Kalenyuk in the register<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"1140\" data-end=\"1310\">Lawyer <strong>Oleg Shram<\/strong> published a post in which he drew attention to references <strong>Daria Kalenyuk<\/strong> as a lawyer and stated that he had been unable to find her details in the Unified Register of Lawyers of Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"1312\" data-end=\"1386\">He called on Kalenyuk to explain whether she holds the relevant professional status.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"1388\" data-end=\"1744\">At the same time, the mere absence of a surname in a standard search or third-party databases still needs to be verified against the official Unified State Register of Citizens. In the official documents available to us <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/main-news\/skandal-cpk-vytraty-1-mln-2024\/\">CPC<\/a> <strong data-start=\"1550\" data-end=\"1589\">Kalenyuk is not being represented by a lawyer<\/strong>: The organisation states that it has Ukrainian and international legal qualifications and 15 years\u2019 experience in anti-corruption work.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"1746\" data-end=\"1932\">On her blog page on \u00abUkrainska Pravda\u00bb, Kalenyuk is also listed as <strong data-start=\"1815\" data-end=\"1893\">\u00ablawyer, executive director and board member of the Anti-Corruption Centre\u00bb<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"auto\" data-section-id=\"1sjbec3\" data-start=\"1934\" data-end=\"1968\">A lawyer and a solicitor are different professional statuses<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"1970\" data-end=\"2067\">Under Ukrainian law, a law degree does not in itself confer the status of a solicitor.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2069\" data-end=\"2426\">The Law \u00abOn the Bar and the Practice of Law\u00bb stipulates that a lawyer must, amongst other things, pass a qualifying examination, complete the procedure laid down by law, take the oath and <strong data-start=\"2250\" data-end=\"2317\">to obtain a certificate authorising the practice of law<\/strong>. Information about lawyers is entered into the Unified Register of Lawyers of Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2428\" data-end=\"2661\">Kalenyuk has a law degree: she studied in Ukraine and obtained an LL.M. in financial services law from Chicago-Kent College of Law in the USA. This is confirmed by both the CPC and her professional profiles.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2663\" data-end=\"2993\">At the same time, the English word <strong data-start=\"2689\" data-end=\"2699\">lawyer<\/strong>, which appeared in some older English-language publications by the CPC, does not necessarily refer specifically to the Ukrainian professional title \u00abadvocate\u00bb \u2014 it is also used to mean \u00ablawyer\u00bb. In one of the CPC\u2019s 2018 articles, Kalenyuk was indeed referred to as <em data-start=\"2946\" data-end=\"2954\">lawyer<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"auto\" data-section-id=\"smq21b\" data-start=\"2995\" data-end=\"3060\">Kalenyuk is standing for a seat on the selection committee for the leadership of the SAP<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3062\" data-end=\"3246\">The question arose shortly after it emerged that Kalenyuk had submitted her application to the selection panel responsible for appointing the leadership of the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3248\" data-end=\"3480\">On 15 September, she applied for the vacant position on the six-member selection panel. The CPC highlights her legal background and previous experience of working on selection panels at the NABU and the SAP.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3482\" data-end=\"3728\">At the same time, the requirement to have specifically <strong data-start=\"3509\" data-end=\"3528\">status as a solicitor<\/strong> The CPC\u2019s announcement does not specify a candidate for this commission. It is therefore necessary to distinguish between the issue of how Kalenyuk is portrayed in publications and the issue of compliance with the formal requirements of the competition.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"auto\" data-section-id=\"ocztzu\" data-start=\"3730\" data-end=\"3786\">What is known about the case concerning international aid funds<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3788\" data-end=\"3899\">Separately, claims are circulating in the media regarding the alleged \u00abtheft of 188 million hryvnias\u00bb by the Anti-Corruption Centre.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3901\" data-end=\"4281\">There are currently no grounds for presenting this statement as an established fact. In July, the Centre for Political Analysis published a letter from the State Bureau of Investigation, which suggests that the Bureau is conducting <strong data-start=\"4044\" data-end=\"4136\">a pre-trial investigation into the possible misappropriation of international technical assistance funds<\/strong> Vitaliy Shabunin and Daria Kalenyuk. In other words, this concerns an investigation, not a case of theft that has been established in court.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"4283\" data-end=\"4556\">The CPC itself states that the relevant proceedings had previously been closed in 2016 due to the absence of a criminal offence, and that, according to the organisation, it had not received any of the funds referred to in the case. The proceedings were subsequently reopened.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"4558\" data-end=\"4819\">The statement specifically concerns <strong data-start=\"4573\" data-end=\"4588\">188 million hryvnias<\/strong> This figure was previously reported in the media, citing veteran Volodymyr Boiko; however, in the available official statement from the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) regarding the Central Public Procurement Agency, this sum has not been confirmed as the established amount of misappropriated
