This was reported on 18 September by military and political analyst Serhiy Pavliuchenko. According to him, the US President may warn the Kremlin that, should it refuse to agree to a ceasefire, Washington is prepared to step up its support for Ukraine \u2013 particularly with regard to security guarantees \u2013 and to sign a new, sweeping sanctions bill.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"1531\" data-end=\"1651\">At the same time, these specific details currently come from Pavlyuchenko himself and <strong data-start=\"1598\" data-end=\"1650\">not confirmed by a separate statement from the US administration<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"auto\" data-section-id=\"a95tau\" data-start=\"1653\" data-end=\"1696\">Trump already has a ready-made means of applying sanctions<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"1698\" data-end=\"2094\">We are talking about <strong data-start=\"1710\" data-end=\"1763\">Lindsey O. Graham\u2019s Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act<\/strong>, which the US Congress has finally <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/economics\/sanktsii-ssha-yes-proty-rosii\/\">approved on 16 September<\/a> and submitted it to Trump for his signature. The document provides for new sanctions against Russian officials, banks, the energy sector and the shadow fleet, and also grants the President the power to impose tariffs of up to 100% on major buyers of Russian energy resources.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2096\" data-end=\"2302\">Back in July, the White House officially backed the bill and stated that it should <strong data-start=\"2170\" data-end=\"2263\">to strengthen Trump\u2019s ability to put pressure on Russia in order to persuade it to agree to a negotiated settlement<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2304\" data-end=\"2487\">The Kremlin has already stated that <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/politics\/kreml-pekelni-sanktsii-ssha-rosia\/\">new US sanctions<\/a> \u00aban unfriendly move\u00bb and claimed that their introduction would allegedly complicate negotiations to end the war.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"auto\" data-section-id=\"kv1fgx\" data-start=\"2489\" data-end=\"2538\">Washington is simultaneously considering business dealings with Russia<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2540\" data-end=\"2632\">At the same time, Trump\u2019s team is exploring the opposite approach \u2014 <strong data-start=\"2598\" data-end=\"2631\">economic incentives for Moscow<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2634\" data-end=\"2904\">According to The New York Times, the US administration is discussing the possibility of concluding separate economic agreements with Russia even before the war has fully ended. Potential areas of cooperation include energy, investment and other joint projects.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2906\" data-end=\"3233\">Supporters of this approach believe that the prospect of restoring business ties with the US could persuade part of the Russian elite to back the move towards a peace agreement. At the same time, other members of the administration fear that making economic concessions too early would weaken Washington\u2019s leverage.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"auto\" data-section-id=\"3ct1kh\" data-start=\"3235\" data-end=\"3276\">Trump\u2019s contacts with Putin are already underway<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3278\" data-end=\"3350\">A possible new conversation would not be the first direct contact in recent times.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3352\" data-end=\"3554\">Last week, Trump reported that he had already had a \u00abvery good\u00bb telephone conversation with Putin and suggested that the Russian president wanted a deal regarding Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3556\" data-end=\"3805\">In addition, representatives of Trump travelled to Moscow in early September <strong data-start=\"3623\" data-end=\"3655\">Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner<\/strong>, who met with Putin to continue negotiations on the war. The White House officially confirmed this visit. However, Russia has not yet shown any willingness to abandon its key territorial demands. Reuters previously reported that Putin is maintaining a hardline stance and continues to rely on military pressure.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"auto\" data-section-id=\"1dl0dx6\" data-start=\"4051\"
