Airbnb calls this trend \u201clore-tripping\u201d.<\/p>\n<div class=\"news-summary-box\">\n<ul>\n<li>Gen Z is increasingly choosing to live in small towns.<\/li>\n<li>The new trend has been dubbed \u201clore-tripping\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>The main attraction is the local legends and stories.<\/li>\n<li>90% of the Gen Z respondents find such trips appealing.<\/li>\n<li>Almost half of the trending destinations are small towns.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"\" dir=\"auto\" data-section-id=\"f3k5vd\" data-start=\"659\" data-end=\"683\">What is lore-tripping?<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"685\" data-end=\"841\"><strong>Lore-tripping<\/strong> \u2014 these are trips to little-known places that attract visitors not because of their famous landmarks, but because of their own legends, curious stories and local culture.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"843\" data-end=\"1120\">Airbnb reports that, in the autumn of 2026, it is precisely these destinations that are increasingly featuring in the plans of American travellers <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/lifestyle\/pokolinnya-z-unikaye-riziku-stosunkah\/\">Generation Z<\/a>. Rather than large cities, they seek out places with an unusual history and the thrill of discovering something little-known.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"1122\" data-end=\"1501\">According to a Focaldata survey commissioned by Airbnb in July 2026, <strong data-start=\"1199\" data-end=\"1248\">90% out of 183 Gen Z respondents in the US<\/strong> They said that small towns and lesser-known tourist destinations were appealing to them this autumn. Around half of the respondents cited more affordable prices, authentic local culture and unusual attractions as the main reasons.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"auto\" data-section-id=\"18kgtp8\" data-start=\"1503\" data-end=\"1527\">Which cities is Gen Z looking for?<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"1529\" data-end=\"1575\">This trend is already evident in Airbnb\u2019s search statistics.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"1577\" data-end=\"1786\">The number of property searches among Gen Z in <strong data-start=\"1615\" data-end=\"1648\">Twentynine Palms in California<\/strong> increased by more than 50%. In <strong data-start=\"1676\" data-end=\"1703\">Hot Springs, Arkansas<\/strong> \u2014 on 30%, and in <strong data-start=\"1718\" data-end=\"1738\">Helen in Georgia<\/strong> \u2014 by 15%.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"1788\" data-end=\"1838\">Certain destinations are particularly appealing because of their history.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"1840\" data-end=\"2099\">\u0423 <strong data-start=\"1842\" data-end=\"1881\">Point Pleasant in West Virginia<\/strong> Tourists are drawn to the town by the legend of the Mothman \u2014 a winged creature first reported by locals as far back as 1966. Today, the town has a museum, a statue and an annual festival dedicated to this legend.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2101\" data-end=\"2284\"><strong data-start=\"2101\" data-end=\"2124\">Gibsonton in Florida<\/strong> It once served as a winter base for circus performers and carnival workers, and the town still draws on this unusual history as part of its local identity.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2286\" data-end=\"2448\">\u0423 <strong data-start=\"2288\" data-end=\"2311\">Bemidji, Minnesota<\/strong> Tourists are greeted by giant statues of the folk hero Paul Bunyan and his blue ox, Beabe.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"auto\" data-section-id=\"63xh6a\" data-start=\"2450\" data-end=\"2491\">Young tourists want to be the first to arrive<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2493\" data-end=\"2544\">Another Airbnb survey revealed a similar trend.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2546\" data-end=\"2697\"><strong data-start=\"2546\" data-end=\"2578\">74% Gen Z travellers in the US<\/strong> They said that over the next year they were prepared to choose a small or little-known town rather than a major tourist destination.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2699\" data-end=\"2986\">At the same time, 63% respondents said that the chance to be one of the first among their friends to visit a particular place is seen as a kind of status symbol. More than half also stated that they avoid overly popular tourist destinations because of the crowds.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2988\" data-end=\"3171\">Airbnb notes that almost half of the destinations currently gaining popularity amongst Gen Z for autumn trips in the US are small towns.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"auto\" data-section-id=\"74s3n6\" data-start=\"3173\" data-end=\"3207\">Autumn journeys are getting shorter<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3209\" data-end=\"3336\">Lore-tripping is developing in parallel with something else <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/lifestyle\/fallcation-vidpustka-voseny-trend-2026\/\">a travel trend<\/a> \u2014 a shift from long holidays to short autumn breaks.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3338\" data-end=\"3619\">According to an Airbnb survey of 2,000 American adults, <strong data-start=\"3396\" data-end=\"3456\">60% are planning a short weekend trip in the autumn of 2026<\/strong>.
