Within a five-kilometre zone, movement, hunting and the carrying of weapons have been restricted, whilst boat traffic has been restricted in the Narva area. The Estonian authorities have stated that they do not see any increase in the immediate threat to the country.<\/p>\n<div class=\"news-summary-box\">\n<p><strong>Briefly about the main points<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Temporary measures are in place in the Russian Federation\u2019s border zone from 16 to 26 September.<\/li>\n<li>It is forbidden to be outside built-up areas at night, including travelling by car.<\/li>\n<li>Hunting and the carrying of firearms are temporarily prohibited.<\/li>\n<li>Small vessels are not permitted to navigate a specific section of the Narva River.<\/li>\n<li>Estonia has the situation under control and sees no need for reciprocal restrictions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2>The night-time restrictions do not apply to all settlements<\/h2>\n<p>Within the border zone, it is prohibited to be present or to move about outside built-up areas at night, including by car. The temporary measures also include a ban on hunting and on carrying firearms.<\/p>\n<p>The Russian side explained the measures as being necessary to prevent breaches of the border and <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/world\/estonia-mozhe-zakryty-kordon-rf\/\">migration regime<\/a>, as well as to protect aquatic biological resources. This does not refer to a full curfew in all settlements across the two districts, but rather to restrictions within the border zone.<\/p>\n<h2>Small vessels have been banned from a section of the Narva River<\/h2>\n<p>Separately, the FSB has banned small vessels from navigating the stretch between the Velikaya Cheremukha and Kryusha rivers. The Narva is a border river along which part of the Russian\u2013Estonian border runs.<\/p>\n<p>Access to the border area from the Russian side is stricter even under normal circumstances. There are special requirements for entering Ivangorod, which is situated opposite Narva in Estonia.<\/p>\n<h2>Estonia does not regard the measures as a sign of an imminent threat<\/h2>\n<p>An Estonian official at the border <strong>Andris Vilt\u0161in<\/strong> He stated that the police and the border service were aware that restrictions were being prepared. However, the Russian authorities did not issue any formal advance notice of their introduction.<\/p>\n<p>In his view, such actions are not common practice, but neither are they exceptional: Russia has already taken similar measures either as a preventive measure or during <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/world\/rosiia-navchannia-yaderna-zbroia-mig31k-bilorus\/\">exercises<\/a>. Wiltzin also highlighted the strengthening of border security and Russia\u2019s additional investment in border infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Estonian Minister of the Interior Igor Taro stated that the threat assessment has not changed, and that only the Russian side is aware of the specific reasons behind the decision. Estonian border guards consider the situation to be under control and see no need for reciprocal restrictions.
