The agreement was announced by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. The Chinese Foreign Ministry reported that, ahead of the summit, the economic teams held a new round of consultations and reached a new joint agreement, without disclosing its details.<\/p>\n<h2>Beijing raised the issue of Taiwan<\/h2>\n<p>According to a report by the Chinese state news agency Xinhua, <strong>Si<\/strong> called on the US to oppose Taiwan\u2019s independence. This call reflects Beijing\u2019s position, but does not in itself imply that Washington agrees to a change in policy.<\/p>\n<p>China regards Taiwan as part of its territory, whilst the island has its own democratically elected government. The meeting took place four months after the talks between Trump and Xi in Beijing.
