New details regarding the emergency on Flydubai flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv are altering the initial picture of the incident. According to Israel Hayom, the passengers on board included the reserve crew, amongst whom were citizens of Ukraine and Russia. Following the attack in the cockpit, they helped regain control of the aircraft and safely land the Boeing 737 MAX in Saudi Arabia. However, international agencies have not yet confirmed the nationalities of the reserve crew members.<\/p>\n

Additional pilots were among the passengers<\/h2>\n

New reports in the Israeli media suggest that on board FZ1073<\/a> There was an additional flight crew who, on this occasion, were not piloting the aircraft but were in the cabin as passengers. Israel Hayom reports that, following the incident, it was these pilots who helped regain control of the Boeing and guide it to a safe landing. According to the publication, among them were pilots from Ukraine and Russia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Jerusalem Post also reports, citing a passenger, that two pilots who were off duty at the rear of the aircraft and assisted with the landing following the attack<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The co-pilot may have deliberately tried to crash the plane<\/h2>\n

The incident was initially described as a fight between two crew members. However, Israeli officials later gave Reuters a much more serious account. According to them, the co-pilot could have attacked the captain with a knife and tried to take control of the aeroplane<\/strong>. Israel is currently treating the incident as a possible terrorist attack.<\/p>\n

A report stating that the attacker wanted to commit suicide<\/strong> and deliberately crashing the plane into the ground have also been reported in the Israeli media. However, the exact motive is still being established.<\/p>\n

Flydubai itself has confirmed that a serious incident occurred, that the aircraft was diverted as a matter of urgency, and that the passengers are safe, but the airline has not yet disclosed any details of what happened in the cockpit.<\/p>\n

The aeroplane plummeted nearly 4 kilometres in a matter of seconds<\/h2>\n

Data from Flightradar24 shows just how critical the situation was. During the flight, the Boeing suddenly began a extremely rapid descent. According to Reuters, the aircraft lost nearly 14,000 feet \u2014 over 4 kilometres \u2014 in less than 30 seconds<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Prior to this, the aircraft had transmitted an emergency code 7700<\/strong>, which indicates a general emergency, followed by the code 7500<\/strong> \u2014 an indication of a possible unauthorised interference or hijacking of the aircraft. Once the situation had stabilised, the Boeing changed course and headed for Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n

The passengers heard screams; there was blood in the cabin<\/h2>\n

Passengers on the flight told Israeli media that during the incident they heard screams coming from the front of the cabin. One of the female passengers reported that, after the cockpit door was opened, she saw blood and an injured pilot. Reuters also cites accounts of a man with a knife who pinned one of the pilots to the floor. Both regular pilots were hospitalised in Saudi Arabia after the plane landed.<\/p>\n

According to Israeli sources, members of the crew and passengers also helped to subdue the attacker.<\/p>\n

Israel scrambled fighter jets following code 7500<\/h2>\n

When the aircraft transmitted the 7500 signal and began to lose altitude rapidly, the situation was interpreted in Israel as a possible hijacking. Fighter jets were scrambled, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held urgent consultations with the security services. It later became clear that the aircraft was not heading for Israel. The Boeing landed at Tabouci in north-western Saudi Arabia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

All passengers survived. Flydubai has stated that it is working with the relevant authorities to establish the circumstances of the incident.<\/p>\n

The versions changed over the course of several hours<\/h2>\n

The incident gave rise to a series of conflicting reports.<\/p>\n

Initially, the Israeli media reported on a conflict between the pilots, who were described as a Ukrainian and a Russian. Later, it emerged that The regular crew members were nationals of Oman and the UAE<\/strong>, whilst the story about the Ukrainian and the Russian concerned the other pilots who were on board.<\/p>\n

The investigation must therefore establish the full picture. At present, the key facts have been confirmed: a violent altercation took place in the cockpit, the aircraft lost altitude rapidly, a \u2018unauthorised intrusion\u2019 alert was triggered, and there were additional pilots on board who stepped in to help after the main crew were injured.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
