Once the deal is finalised, the combined corporation will change its legal name to Skydance Corporation, bringing Paramount, Warner Bros, HBO, CNN, CBS, Paramount+, HBO Max and dozens of the most famous film franchises under one corporate umbrella. The deal is expected to close on 6 October 2026, although the individual Paramount and Warner Bros brands will continue to exist.

Briefly about the main points

Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros Discovery plan to complete the merger on 6 October.

The merged parent company will be called Skydance Corporation.

Brands such as Paramount, Warner Bros, HBO and others are not disappearing and will retain their own identities.

HBO Max, Paramount+, CBS, CNN and major Hollywood franchises will all come together under one corporate umbrella.

Skydance will become the new corporate name

Chairman of Paramount Skydance David Ellison On 2 October, it was announced that, following the completion of the acquisition of Warner Bros Discovery, the combined entity would operate under the corporate name Skydance Corporation. The change is due to come into effect at the same time as the deal is finalised — on 6 October.

This does not mean that the names Paramount or Warner Bros will disappear from cinemas or streaming platforms. According to the management’s plan, the historic studio brands will retain their own distinct identities, whilst Skydance will become the name of the corporate group that owns them.

At the same time, the company will delist from Nasdaq and transfer its shares to the New York Stock Exchange. The stock symbol will change from PSKY on SKYD.

Which brands will end up in the same empire?

It is difficult to overstate the scale of this merger. The assets of Paramount and Warner Bros Discovery — two companies that have been competing against each other for decades in the film, television and streaming industries — are now being brought together under a single media group.

The future group will comprise Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros, HBO, CBS, CNN, as well as streaming services Paramount+ and HBO Max. It will take control of franchises such as Mission: Impossible і Harry Potter, as well as extensive libraries of films, TV series and other television content.

In effect, a new competitor to Disney, Netflix, Comcast and other global media groups is emerging, one that will simultaneously own Hollywood studios, TV channels, news brands and its own streaming platforms.

The deal was valued at approximately $110 billion

Paramount agreed to acquire Warner Bros Discovery in February 2026. WBD shareholders are to be paid $31 per share plus a small additional payment for each day from 30 September until the completion of the transaction. The media estimate the total value of the deal at approximately $110–111 billion.

The road to completing the merger was not an easy one. Twelve US states opposed the deal, fearing further concentration in the film, television and cable networks markets.

As a result, the parties agreed on a number of conditions, and the federal court gave the go-ahead for the transaction to proceed. Among the commitments is the issue of at least 30 films in US cinemas every year for five years and additional investment in the US film industry amounting to approximately $300 million annually.

The new company will be led by two CEOs

David Ellison will remain Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of the combined group. He will focus on long-term strategy, creative direction, technology, partnerships and capital allocation.

He will be joined by the current head of Mattel Inon Krez, who will become co-CEO. Kreiz will join Paramount on 5 October and, once the merger is complete, will be primarily responsible for the day-to-day management and integration of the two major media businesses.

His appointment attracted particular attention due to his track record in transforming Mattel from a toy manufacturer into a company that actively monetises its intellectual property in film and other formats. It was under Kreiz’s leadership that Mattel launched Mattel Films and became one of the key players in the creation of the film *Barbie*.

The hardest part will begin after the merger

The completion of the deal will not mark the end of the transformation. On the contrary, the new Skydance will have a complex structure comprising a vast number of studios, TV channels, platforms and employees.

It is estimated that management will have to deal with approximately $80 billion in debt and sell around $6 billion in planned savings. A significant proportion of these savings is expected to come from the elimination of overlapping functions and the consolidation of technology, marketing and administrative structures.

It is this process that may prove to be the most painful part of the merger. Major media deals are traditionally accompanied by restructuring and job cuts, although the exact scale of the forthcoming changes at Paramount and Warner Bros has not yet been announced.

Will Paramount+ and HBO Max merge?

One of the main questions on viewers’ minds is the future of streaming platforms. Following the deal, a single corporation will control and Paramount+, і HBO Max, but the company has not yet announced their full merger.

From an economic perspective, this will be one of the key issues in the next phase of integration. Managing two large global services entails significant costs, whilst a combined library could become one of the most comprehensive catalogues in the streaming market.

Skydance will therefore have to decide whether to maintain two separate platforms, create subscription bundles, or gradually move towards a single product. At present, any specific scenario remains purely speculative.

Hollywood is entering a new era of consolidation

The deal between Paramount and Warner Bros Discovery demonstrates just how rapidly the global media industry is changing. Traditional TV networks are losing viewers as people switch away from cable TV, whilst streaming requires ever-increasing budgets for content and technology.

The response from the major studios is to go big: larger libraries, more franchises, global platforms and the ability to spread costs across different areas.

If the deal is finalised on 6 October, Skydance Corporation is set to become the parent company of Hollywood’s two most famous studio empires. But it is the coming years that will show whether the new structure can turn this vast portfolio of brands into a successful business — whilst at the same time preserving the identities of Paramount, Warner Bros and HBO.

[806797

post-31754","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-show-biz
["GET
