The Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Film Studio in Kyiv has once again been hit by a Russian attack. During the night of 7 October, the studio\u2019s three-pavilion building was damaged and a fire broke out on the premises. Firefighters from the State Emergency Service have been battling the blaze since last night. There are no reports of fatalities on the film studio\u2019s premises. This is at least the fourth time the complex has sustained damage from Russian strikes.<\/p>\n
The film studio itself reported on the consequences of the attack on the morning of 7 October. According to the studio, the following were affected during the heavy rocket fire: a three-winged building<\/strong>. The published footage shows significant structural damage, debris and signs of fire.<\/p>\n Rescue workers have been working on the studio premises since last night. Details of the full extent of the damage are still being ascertained.<\/p>\n This is not the first time that Russian strikes have hit the premises of one of Ukraine\u2019s oldest film studios. In July 2025, the shockwave damaged the production facilities and part of the hotel \u2014 around 90 windows were shattered at the time.<\/p>\n On the night of 2 June 2026<\/strong> A downed Russian \u00abIskander\u00bb missile fell onto the film studio\u2019s grounds. The explosion damaged a heating pipeline, the sewerage system, the tarmac and dozens of windows.<\/p>\n The consequences of the attack have become even more severe 15 June<\/strong>. A fire then broke out, damaging 18 buildings in the complex, including the main film studio, the administration and laboratory blocks, the film archive, workshops and other premises.<\/p>\n One of the greatest cultural losses following the June attack was the film studio\u2019s collection of historical costumes.<\/p>\n For decades, it had housed the costumes used in the production of Ukrainian films. Among other things, these included costumes made from ribbons \u00abShadows of Forgotten Ancestors\u00bb<\/strong>, \u00abThe Lost Letter\u00bb<\/strong> and other classic works of Ukrainian cinema.<\/p>\n According to estimates, a significant portion of the collection was lost following the strike. However, an archive of around 600 films was saved at the time \u2014 the storage facility was located not far from where the strike hit, but the fire did not reach it.<\/p>\n Following this damage, emergency repair work has already begun on the studio premises.
