At least seven masked individuals disabled the security systems, loaded the goods onto two lorries and made their getaway. The police and the Carabinieri are investigating the case, which they describe as the most valuable wine theft in Italian history.

Briefly about the main points

The robbery took place on the night of 4 October at a site in the province of Arezzo.

The criminals used the winery’s forklift trucks to move the crates.

The consignment included Solaia, Tignanello and Guado al Tasso wines from the 2023 vintage.

Buyers and distributors have been urged to be wary of unofficial offers.

At the time the information was made public, no one had been arrested in connection with the case.

The alarm was switched off, and the disappearance was discovered the following morning

Theft The incident took place on the night of 4 October at a logistics facility in the province of Arezzo. CCTV cameras captured footage of masked men who disabled the alarm system and part of the CCTV system before breaking into the warehouse.

To move the crates quickly, the perpetrators used forklift trucks belonging to the company. Employees discovered disappearance of goods on the morning of 5 October, when they returned to work.

Details of the robbery were made public on 9 October so as not to hinder the initial stage of the investigation. The winery’s management believes that the gang had a good understanding of the logistics involved in storing expensive wines.

The stolen consignment included Solaia, Tignanello and Guado al Tasso

The 2023 vintages of Solaia, Tignanello and Guado al Tasso have disappeared from the warehouse. According to the Associated Press, the retail price of individual bottles ranges from €150 to €500; rarer vintages may cost more.

Solaia accounted for approximately 8,000–10,000 bottles. This consignment was being prepared for dispatch to overseas distributors, so the goods were already ready for transport, which may have facilitated a swift loading process.

The police are checking lorry routes, whilst the winery is warning customers

The Italian police and the Carabinieri are analysing CCTV footage, possible routes taken by the lorries and other evidence. According to the Financial Times, at the time the information was made public, no one had been arrested in connection with the case.

Chief Executive of Marchesi Antinori Renzo Cotarella He suggested that a well-organised gang was behind the attack and did not rule out a link to other recent wine thefts in the country. In his view, it would be difficult to transport and sell two lorries’ worth of rare wine without being noticed.

The company has asked its international partners and distributors to carefully check any offers received outside official channels. Of particular concern is the possible sale of bottles on the secondary market at unusually low prices.

Thefts from manufacturers’ warehouses are becoming more widespread

Marchesi Antinori dates back to 1385, and the Antinori family has been running the company for 26 generations. Its products are exported to around 170 countries.

According to Reuters, there has recently been a rise in the theft of wine directly from producers’ warehouses in Italy. In July, wine was also stolen from the Banfi winery in Montalcino. By way of comparison, in 2017, around two thousand bottles of rare wine, worth approximately €750,000, went missing near Cervia.

The latest incidents are characterised by their large scale, more complex organisation and the use of goods vehicles. As of 11 October, the stolen consignment of Antinori wine is still being sought, and the winery is working with the police and distributors to locate it.

Marchesi Antinori has warned buyers of the risk of unofficial sales of Solaia, Tignanello and Guado al Tasso wines stolen in Tuscany.

Marchesi Antinori попередила покупців про ризик неофіційного продажу викрадених у Тоскані вин Solaia, Tignanello та Guado al Tasso.
[805619
805624
post-32864","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-world","tag-805624
["GET
