The mechanism provides for funding in tranches, the size of which must correspond to the value of the contracts or agreements submitted by Ukraine in its request for funds. The payment may facilitate the signing of contracts, but does not imply the automatic and immediate transfer of equipment to the armed forces.<\/p>\n<div class=\"news-summary-box\">\n<p><strong>Briefly about the main points<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The payment was made as part of the Ukraine Support Loan, rather than under a separate scheme.<\/li>\n<li>The EU\u2019s defence payments are linked to contracts submitted by Ukraine.<\/li>\n<li>The mechanism has a maximum capacity of 90 billion euros.<\/li>\n<li>An estimated 60 billion euros has been earmarked for defence capabilities.<\/li>\n<li>Production and delivery schedules do not coincide with the tranche date.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2>A credit facility for defence and the budget<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/economics\/eu-28bn-ukraine-facility-tranche\/\">Ukraine Support Loan<\/a> \u2014 an EU credit facility for 2026\u20132027. Its maximum volume is \u20ac90 billion: approximately \u20ac60 billion is earmarked for the development of Ukraine\u2019s defence and industrial capabilities, with a further \u20ac30 billion for macro-financial and budgetary support.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/economics\/eu-10-mlrd-safe-oboronni-proiekty-ukraina\/\">Defence funding<\/a> may be disbursed in separate instalments. The Regulation allows for these payments to be made until 31 December 2028, whilst the mechanism remains available until the end of 2027.<\/p>\n<h2>Payments relate to contracts, not to immediate deliveries<\/h2>\n<p>Under the rules of the mechanism, the amount of a specific defence payment must correspond to the value of the contracts or agreements included by Ukraine in its funding request. This can support ongoing procurement and provide manufacturers with the predictability they need to plan production, logistics and the procurement of components.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the date of funding is not the same as the date of delivery: the manufacture, supply and handover of products to the Defence Forces may take place at different times.
