According to the SBU, he is a 36-year-old native of St Petersburg serving with the Russian Armed Forces\u2019 1009th Motorised Rifle Regiment. However, the detainee\u2019s involvement in such a unit has not been definitively confirmed.<\/p>\n<h2>Several agencies were searching for the armed suspect<\/h2>\n<p>Following the shooting, a large-scale search operation was launched. It involved special forces, operational officers, criminal analysts, investigators and police experts from the Kharkiv region, as well as staff from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office, the State Security Service (VSP) and National Guard personnel.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement officers searched dozens of square kilometres, checking the man\u2019s possible routes and places where he might have been hiding. The Head of the National Police<strong> Ivan Vygovsky<\/strong> explained that it was necessary to act quickly, as the suspect was still armed.<\/p>\n<p>The man, who had previously been arrested, had a criminal record in Russia. The police did not disclose any details of the previous offence or the sentence imposed.<\/p>\n<h2>How is the case classified, and what are the investigators looking into?<\/h2>\n<p>Criminal proceedings have been initiated under paragraph 1 of Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine \u2014 the intentional murder of two or more persons. The penalty carries a sentence of between 10 and 15 years\u2019 imprisonment or life imprisonment.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, investigators are looking into reports that a Russian soldier may have been involved in another murder.
