A prosecutor from the Office of the Prosecutor General has been arrested in the Kyiv region; according to preliminary findings from the investigation, he struck a 36-year-old pedestrian with a Renault car and fled the scene of the road traffic accident. The man died from his injuries.<\/p>\n
The accident took place on the evening of 15 October 2026 near Stavyshche. The victim\u2019s body was found on the morning of 16 October at a public transport stop near the M-05 Kyiv\u2013Odesa motorway. This was reported by at the Office of the Attorney General<\/a>.<\/p>\n According to preliminary information from the police, on the evening of 15 October, a Renault car struck a pedestrian near Stavyshche. Following the collision, the driver left the scene. The 36-year-old victim died as a result of his injuries. His body was not discovered until the following morning near a public transport stop by the M-05 motorway.<\/p>\n On 16 October, an employee contacted the police Office of the Prosecutor General<\/a>. He admitted his involvement in the accident and disclosed the location of the car which, according to preliminary reports, had struck the pedestrian. Upon receiving this information, the police detained the prosecutor in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Office of the Prosecutor General clarified that, at the time of the road traffic accident, the suspect was on parental leave and was not carrying out his official duties. Law enforcement officers are preparing a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This relates to a breach of road safety regulations resulting in the death of a person. The penalty under this article provides for imprisonment for a term of between three and eight years, with the possible disqualification from driving for up to three years. Investigators are also considering whether to apply to the court for the detainee to be remanded in custody as a precautionary measure.
