This was announced on 21 October by Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian President, following talks between Putin and Steve Witkoff, a special envoy of the US President. According to Ushakov, the Chinese side is already making preparations for a potential summit, and none of the three capitals has ruled out such a possibility. However, there has been no official confirmation of an agreement to hold the meeting as yet. However, he did not disclose their content nor did he specify a particular date for the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, a Kremlin spokesperson <strong>Dmitry Peskov<\/strong> He confirmed that this idea had been discussed, but stressed that no agreed proposals regarding the agenda and organisation of the summit had yet been put forward.<\/p>\n<h2>Trump is open to a trilateral summit, but China has not confirmed the arrangements<\/h2>\n<p>President of the United States <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong> had previously stated that he was open to talks with Putin and <strong>Xi Jinping<\/strong>. According to US media reports, he is open to the idea of holding such a meeting during his visit to China.<\/p>\n<p>The White House chief noted that nuclear disarmament would be one of the possible topics for discussion. The leaders may also discuss the war in Ukraine and international security.<\/p>\n<p>Official Beijing is being more cautious in its comments on the initiative. On 21 October, a spokeswoman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs <strong>Mao Ning<\/strong> stated that she had no information about the proposed trilateral meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, Ushakov\u2019s comments regarding the preparations for the summit currently remain merely a statement by the Russian side, rather than confirmation of a final agreement between the three states.<\/p>\n<h2>\u00abThe war is drawing to a close\u00bb: Ushakov\u2019s statement<\/h2>\n<p>Following the talks between Putin and Witkoff, a Kremlin spokesperson also commented on the prospects of an end to the Russian-Ukrainian war.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to journalists\u2019 questions about the prospect of a peaceful settlement, Ushakov stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00abI don\u2019t know how close we\u2019re getting, but that\u2019s the way things are heading.\u00bb.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He did not specify a timeframe for the possible end of hostilities, nor did he report that any new ceasefire agreements had been reached.<\/p>\n<p>According to Putin\u2019s aide, Moscow is prepared to resume trilateral talks involving Ukraine, the US and Russia, tentatively in mid-November. Abu Dhabi is cited as one of the possible venues for such a meeting.<\/p>\n<p>These talks differ from the proposed summit in Shenzhen, where the leaders of Russia, the US and China may meet.<\/p>\n<h2>Ukraine has spoken out against any discussion of its future without Kyiv<\/h2>\n<p>The prospect of talks between Putin, Trump and Xi Jinping has already prompted a reaction from Ukrainian diplomats.<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine\u2019s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Andriy Sibiga, has criticised the idea of a trilateral meeting on ending the war without Ukrainian representatives.<\/p>\n<p>In his view, talks between the leaders of Ukraine, the US and Russia could help bring peace closer, whilst a format involving Moscow, Washington and Beijing without Kyiv risks encouraging the Kremlin to continue the war.<\/p>\n<p>The Ukrainian side insists that decisions concerning Ukraine\u2019s territorial integrity, sovereignty and security guarantees cannot be taken without its involvement.<\/p>\n<h2>When might the meeting in Shenzhen take place?<\/h2>\n<p>The APEC Summit in Shenzhen, China, is scheduled for 18\u201319 November 2026. It is within the framework of this event that the possibility of talks between Putin, Trump and Xi Jinping is being considered.<\/p>\n<p>If the trilateral meeting takes place, it could be the first
