On 24 October, reports emerged in Ukraine that stable operation of the Starlink satellite communication system and its military counterpart, Starshield, had been restored whilst travelling at speeds exceeding 400 km\/h. The statement was circulated with reference to Defence Minister Yevhen Khmara. Experts are continuing to test the stability of the connection and its maximum operating speeds.<\/p>\n

What is known about the Starlink restoration on 24 October<\/h2>\n

According to \u00abInterfax-Ukraine\u00bb, the Ukrainian Defence Forces and specialists from the Ministry of Defence have noted an improvement in the performance of Starlink and Starshield whilst travelling at speeds that previously resulted in a loss of signal.<\/p>\n

As of the morning of 24 October, the following has been confirmed the operation of individual terminals<\/a> at speeds in excess of 161 km\/h. Testing is ongoing, as it is necessary to determine the maximum speeds and the stability of the connection under various conditions.<\/p>\n

A separate statement, attributed to the Minister of Defence, is being circulated Yevheniia Khmara<\/strong>, regarding the stable operation of the system at speeds in excess of 400 km\/h<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This is not about internet download speeds, but about the ability to maintain a satellite connection whilst the equipment is in motion.<\/p>\n

Why did Starlink restrict the operation of Ukrainian drones?<\/h2>\n

Problems with satellite communications arose on the night of 14 October. The Ukrainian military began to record a loss of connection at the terminals Starshield<\/a> whilst travelling at speeds of approximately 72 to 161 km\/h, depending on the equipment.<\/p>\n

The restrictions have affected the use of attack drones, interceptor drones, reconnaissance systems and relay equipment.<\/p>\n

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously stated that, due to these restrictions, the Ukrainian military had lost the ability to effectively intercept some of the Russian \u00abShahed\u00bb missiles, which travel at speeds exceeding 400 km\/h.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Defence has begun consultations with the United States, SpaceX and NATO partners regarding the restoration of the system\u2019s operations.<\/p>\n

When will the Starshield restrictions be lifted completely?<\/h2>\n

22 October, the US President Donald Trump<\/strong> said. Elon Musk<\/strong> has resumed Starlink services for Ukraine.<\/p>\n

However, the following day, the Ukrainian military continued to report a loss of communication at a speed of 161 km\/h.
