The American intelligence helps to detect Russian missiles and attack drones, as well as to plan operations against Russian forces. Washington has not decided to halt the exchange of data entirely, although possible restrictions remain under consideration by the Trump administration.

Briefly about the main points

The US continues to provide intelligence support to the Ukrainian Defence Forces.

Satellite data is used to provide warnings about Russian missiles and drones.

*The Atlantic* describes the CIA as a key player in this collaboration.

Warnings about possible restrictions were issued following the strikes on Russian oil refineries.

Failures in the warning systems do not prove that data transmission was deliberately interrupted.

Satellite data helps to track airborne threats

The US intelligence services, in particular Central Intelligence Agency, assist the Ukrainian Defence Forces by providing information on Russian military threats. US satellites make it possible to detect incoming missiles and attack drones, which is important for an early response during attacks.

Ukraine also uses the data it has obtained to plan military operations against Russian forces. A former high-ranking US officer, who regularly visits Ukraine, told the publication that the CIA plays a leading role amongst the US agencies involved in this work.

A source from the intelligence services of one of the Baltic states, speaking to *The Atlantic*, stated that the CIA’s current operational activities are more intense than they were during the presidency of Joe Biden. In his view, the practical work of the American intelligence services differs from their public rhetoric Trump regarding Ukraine.

Retcliffe supports cooperation, but reports to the president

Director of the CIA John Ratcliffe He is in regular contact with Trump whilst also heading an agency that is directly involved in providing aid to Ukraine. Ukrainian officials interviewed by journalists have spoken positively about their professional dealings with representatives of the agency.

In Kyiv, it is believed that Retcliffe is aware of the threat Russia poses to Ukraine, the US and their allies. At the same time, he is not regarded as an unconditional defender of Ukrainian interests.

Former US intelligence officials have suggested that the CIA Director would carry out a direct order from the President to halt or restrict the exchange of information, even if there were objections to such a decision within the agency.

Warnings about restrictions were linked to attacks on Russian oil refineries

Relations between Kyiv and Washington have become strained following Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries. The Trump administration demanded an end to such attacks, linking them to rising fuel prices, and, through officials, warned the Ukrainian military of a possible reduction in intelligence support.

14 October Zelensky confirmed that the Ukrainian military leadership had received such signals from the American side. According to him, no such demands had been made of him personally. The day before, Trump had publicly stated that the US was continuing to share intelligence with Ukraine.

According to *The Atlantic*, the White House considered imposing restrictions, but did not halt the transfer of data entirely.

Starlink outages do not confirm that data has been deliberately cut off

During the Russian missile attacks in October, Ukraine faced difficulties in obtaining timely information about specific air targets. Against a backdrop of disruptions Starlink and American early-warning systems, this hampered the work of the air defence forces.

One Ukrainian intelligence officer attributed the problems to the actions of the American side. At the same time, *The Atlantic* cites evidence of technical faults which may also have disrupted the operation of the warning systems. The publication notes that there are no grounds for claiming that the US deliberately ceased transmitting the relevant data.

The US continues to provide Ukraine with intelligence to detect Russian missiles and drones.
