Ukraine has temporarily suspended strikes on Russian oil refineries at the request of the United States and other partners. According to UC, Kyiv is awaiting a response to its proposals regarding further agreements. The news emerged against the backdrop of talks on a possible energy truce between Ukraine and Russia. Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had proposed several options to Washington for halting attacks on oil refineries in exchange for enhanced protection of Ukraine\u2019s energy sector.<\/p>\n

What is known about the suspension of strikes on Russian oil refineries<\/h2>\n

According to UC, Ukraine has agreed to a temporary pause in strikes on Russia\u2019s oil refining infrastructure following appeals from the US and other partners.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Kyiv is awaiting a response to its own proposals. The statement does not specify exactly which conditions are being discussed as part of the current decision, nor how long the pause might last.<\/p>\n

This is not the first time Washington has called on Ukraine to stop attacks on Russian oil refineries<\/a>. The Donald Trump administration had previously linked such strikes to rising prices for petroleum products and insisted on a reduction in tensions in the energy sector.<\/p>\n

In October, differences had already arisen between Kyiv and Washington regarding these operations. According to the Financial Times, US officials warned of possible restrictions on military support and the exchange of intelligence if Ukraine continued its attacks on Russian oil infrastructure.<\/p>\n

What proposals did Ukraine put forward to the United States?<\/h2>\n

25 October Volodymyr Zelenskyy<\/strong> In an interview with \u00abTSN.Tyzhden\u00bb, he spoke about the three options for agreements that the Ukrainian side had proposed to Washington.<\/p>\n

The first proposal involved a mutual cessation of attacks on energy facilities. Ukraine was prepared not to attack Russian oil refineries if Moscow ceased shelling Ukrainian power stations and other energy infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The second option concerned the possibility of using the system Starshield<\/a>\u00a0over Russian territory to identify missile launch sites.<\/p>\n

The third proposal involved supplying Ukraine with additional interceptor missiles for the Patriot systems. Kyiv was prepared to temporarily halt strikes on Russian oil refineries in exchange for the strengthening of air defences needed to protect the Ukrainian power grid.<\/p>\n

Zelenskyy emphasised that the cessation of Ukrainian attacks must not leave the country defenceless against Russian strikes.<\/p>\n

Why the previous energy truce did not work<\/h2>\n

11 October, the US President Donald Trump<\/strong> announced an agreement to cease mutual attacks on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine and Russia.<\/p>\n

Ukraine supported the initiative and temporarily halted attacks on Russian oil refineries. However, the Russian army continued to shell Ukrainian energy facilities.<\/p>\n

On 15 October, Zelenskyy announced the resumption of strikes on Russian oil refineries following a three-day pause. The President explained that this was because Russia had failed to observe the principle of reciprocity and had continued to attack Ukrainian infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Kyiv subsequently proposed new de-escalation mechanisms involving its American partners. At the same time, Zelenskyy has repeatedly emphasised that Ukraine will not agree to unilateral restrictions without adequate security guarantees.<\/p>\n
