The accident occurred in the province of Toledo on the railway line between Madrid and Andalusia. As a result of the collision, two carriages derailed and fell off the embankment. Rescue workers, firefighters and medical helicopters arrived at the scene. According to the emergency services, the collision was reported at approximately 08:54 local time.<\/p>\n<p>An AVE high-speed train operated by the state-owned railway company Renfe and a train operated by the private company Iryo were involved in the accident.<\/p>\n<p>According to reports in the Spanish media, one of the trains was travelling from Madrid to Seville, whilst the other was travelling in the opposite direction. Following the collision, two carriages fell off the embankment. Three air ambulances and two ambulances were dispatched to the scene of the accident.<\/p>\n<p>Spanish <strong>Journalists are reporting that there are numerous casualties<\/strong>. At the same time, at the time of the first official reports, the authorities had not released any confirmed figures on the number of people injured or killed.<\/p>\n<p>The causes of the collision are being investigated.<\/p>\n<h2>Train services between Madrid and Andalusia have been suspended<\/h2>\n<p>Following the accident, the state-owned operator Adif announced a complete suspension of services on the Madrid\u2013Andalusia high-speed rail line. The restrictions affected trains linking the Spanish capital with the country\u2019s southern regions, in particular Seville.<\/p>\n<p>Renfe has announced that tickets for services affected by the restrictions can be exchanged or refunded free of charge.<\/p>\n<p>No timetable has yet been announced for the resumption of rail services.
