Russia is preparing to launch new ballistic missile strikes against Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made this statement on the evening of 29 October 2026, citing information from Ukrainian intelligence. The Head of State emphasised that, in order to repel possible attacks, Ukraine urgently needs additional interceptor missiles, primarily for the American Patriot systems. The President also reported the destruction of two Russian Su-34 fighter jets and the neutralisation of an Iskander missile launcher.<\/p>\n

Zelenskyy warned of preparations for new ballistic strikes<\/h2>\n

During his evening address on 29 October Volodymyr Zelenskyy<\/strong> reported that Ukrainian intelligence had received information about Russian troops preparing new missile attacks<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u00abFromThere is now intelligence suggesting that the Russians are preparing new ballistic strikes<\/em>\u00bb, the President said.<\/p>\n

He emphasised that Ukraine needs additional resources to intercept Russian missiles. First and foremost, this refers to ammunition for American anti-aircraft missile systems Patriot<\/a>, which are used to counter ballistic threats.<\/p>\n

According to Mr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian side is awaiting appropriate decisions from its international partners. The President also thanked the countries that are helping to strengthen air defences.<\/p>\n

The head of state did not specify any particular dates for possible strikes, the number of missiles, or the towns and villages that might be at risk.<\/p>\n

Ukraine is facing a shortage of missiles for the Patriot system<\/h2>\n

The warning came against the backdrop of recent large-scale Russian shelling of Kyiv and the Kyiv region<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On 27 October, Zelenskyy stated that in just two weeks, starting from 14 October, Russia had fired more than 100 ballistic missiles at the capital and the surrounding region.<\/p>\n

The President noted that Ukraine is finding it difficult to repel such attacks due to a shortage of interceptor missiles. According to him, the delivery of some of the air defence packages is being delayed, whilst Russian troops continue to launch strikes against energy, transport and other infrastructure.<\/p>\n

On 28 October, whilst visiting the Netherlands, Zelenskyy reiterated that Russia is placing particular emphasis on ballistic weapons ahead of winter.<\/p>\n

He called on partners to ensure the timely implementation of military aid programmes, in particular the mechanism PURL<\/a>, through which European countries fund the purchase of American weapons for Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Zelenskyy announced the destruction of two Su-34s and the taking out of an \u00abIskander\u00bb<\/h2>\n

The President also spoke about the results of Ukrainian missile strikes on Russian military targets.<\/p>\n

According to him, the Defence Forces carried out two missile strikes, resulting in the destruction of two Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers. The Ukrainian military also struck a launcher belonging to the \u00abIskander\u00bb operational-tactical missile system.<\/p>\n

Zelenskyy thanked the military personnel for carrying out the operation. However, he did not provide any further details in his address regarding the locations of the strikes or the extent of the damage to the launcher.<\/p>\n

The Russian army is using Su-34s to strike Ukrainian positions and populated areas, in particular with guided aerial bombs. \u00abIskander\u00bb systems are capable of launching ballistic missiles.<\/p>\n

As of the evening of 29 October 2026, information regarding preparations for a new attack is based on Ukrainian intelligence data, as announced by the President. The timing and directions of any potential launches are unknown.
