The equipment has been upgraded to counter Russian attack drones, in particular the \u00abGeranium\u00bb and \u00abGerbera\u00bb models. According to Poroshenko, this is necessary to counter new types of Russian attack drones, which use advanced communication and navigation systems.<\/p>\n<p>The politician stated that, from August, Russian troops had begun to deploy rocket-propelled variants of \u00ab<a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/science-tech\/starlink-obmezhennya-drony-perekhoplyuvachi\/\">Shahedov<\/a>\u00bb. Because of this, Ukrainian <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/viyna\/retransliatory-shakhediv-kyiv-beskrestnov\/\">electronic warfare systems<\/a> require constant technical upgrades.<\/p>\n<p>The modernised \u00ab<a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/science-tech\/reb-ai-petri-mspo-poland\/\">Ai-Petri<\/a>\u00bb, he said, may create obstacles to the work of Russian \u00ab<a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/world\/tsymbulova-reaktyvni-gerani-baza-rf\/\">Geraniums<\/a>\u00bb and \u00ab<a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/suspilstvo\/herbera-boie-chasty-detonator\/\">Gerber<\/a>\u00bb, making it more difficult to guide them onto their targets.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, no specific results regarding the combat use of this particular new batch have yet been made public.<\/p>\n<h2>Who funded the new batch of equipment?<\/h2>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/politics\/poroshenko-nato-chlenstvo-ukrainy\/\">Poroshenko<\/a>, all six complexes were funded by the Ministry of Defence of one of the NATO member states. The politician did not reveal the name of the country.<\/p>\n<p>He also stated that equipment production is continuing uninterrupted, and that the manufacturer, representatives of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the project team are all involved in preparing the systems.<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time that cooperation with Western partners has taken place. In June 2026, it was reported that 25 \u00abAi-Petri\u00bb systems, with a total value of 260 million hryvnias, had been handed over to the military. At that time, a foreign partner country covered part of the costs for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>In August, Poroshenko also announced the delivery of a further 20 systems, funded jointly with NATO partners.<\/p>\n<h2>How the \u00abAi-Petri\u00bb complexes operate\u00bb<\/h2>\n<p>\u00abAi-Petri\u00bb is a Ukrainian system designed to counter enemy technical reconnaissance equipment and drones. It uses electronic warfare to disrupt the operation of enemy communications, navigation and control systems.<\/p>\n<p>According to previously published information, the equipment package includes specialised equipment, a pick-up truck, a generator, a charging station and additional electronic equipment.<\/p>\n<p>Funding for the development of the system has been in place since 2023. According to earlier statements by Poroshenko, over 200 million hryvnias have been invested in its development.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2025, the politician announced a contract with the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, and in June of the same year, he announced the start of cooperation with the Army Command regarding the supply of systems.<\/p>\n<p>In September 2026, the system was unveiled at the MSPO international defence technology exhibition in the Polish city of Kielce.<\/p>\n<h2>When will the new systems begin to defend Ukrainian airspace?<\/h2>\n<p>According to information released on 1 November, six modernised \u00abAi-Petri\u00bb vehicles are due to take up their positions on Monday, 2 November.<\/p>\n<p>The upgraded equipment is being supplied against the backdrop of changes in the tactics of Russian air strikes. The use of faster drones and new navigation systems is forcing Ukrainian developers to constantly improve their countermeasures.<\/p>\n<p>It has now been reported that a consignment has been handed over to the military, but there is as yet no information on its initial combat performance.
