The hacker groups \u00abCyberpartisans BY\u00bb and Silent Crow have attacked the websites of Russia\u2019s Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat). The attackers claimed to have stolen around 23 terabytes of data, which allegedly includes information on Russian military casualties in the war against Ukraine. On the night of 1 November 2026, messages in Belarusian and the logos of the hacker groups appeared on the agency\u2019s website. Rosstat acknowledged the cyberattacks, which had been ongoing since 29 October, but denied that any databases had been leaked. This was reported by Radio Free Europe\/Radio Liberty, citing Russian media and statements from those involved in the attack.<\/p>\n
On the night of 1 November, unknown individuals altered the content of Rosstat\u2019s official website. Messages in Belarusian appeared on its homepage and in the sections dedicated to regional offices.<\/p>\n
According to the Russian newspaper *Kommersant*, one of the messages contained the following inscription: \u00ab<\/strong>No one can escape accountability<\/em>\u00bb<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Alongside the text, logos of the \u00abCyberpartisans BY\u00bb and Silent Crow groups were displayed. The latter subsequently claimed to have breached the internal IT infrastructure of the Russian statistics agency.<\/p>\n On the morning of 1 November, *Kommersant* reported that the website had resumed operations. At the same time, Rosstat stated that the site would be made available to users again in the near future.<\/p>\n The Silent Crow group claims that, during the operation, it gained access to a significant portion of Rosstat\u2019s information infrastructure.<\/p>\n According to those involved in the attack, the incident affected approximately 25,000 computers and servers, including systems belonging to the central administration, regional offices and the Main Inter-regional Centre for the Processing and Dissemination of Statistical Information.<\/p>\n Hackers<\/a> They also claimed to have downloaded around 23 terabytes of data. Among the materials that they allegedly obtained were:<\/p>\n Representatives of Silent Crow also claim to have damaged part of the agency\u2019s internal IT infrastructure.<\/p>\n At the same time, there is no independent confirmation of the theft of 23 TB of information or of the acquisition of data on Russia\u2019s military losses. The statements that have been made public do not allow us to determine the true extent of the breach of Rosstat\u2019s systems.<\/p>\n Russia\u2019s Federal State Statistics Service has reported that, between 29 October and 1 November, its information systems were subjected to targeted cyber-attacks.<\/p>\n According to the agency, the attacks were meticulously planned and carried out simultaneously on several fronts.<\/p>\n Rosstat states that the monitoring systems detected the suspicious activity in good time, enabling a prompt response to be initiated.<\/p>\n At the same time, representatives of the department stated that they had not detected any breaches of databases or leaks of information protected by law.<\/p>\n Cybersecurity experts and law enforcement agencies have been brought in to investigate the circumstances.
