A maternity ward, a school, a bridge and residential areas in Rakhine and Kayah states were hit by the strikes. According to representatives of the Arakan Army and humanitarian workers, at least 12 people were killed and a further 32 were injured.<\/p>\n<p>One of the targets of the attack was a temporary <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/viyna\/udar-medzaklad-kharkiv-slobidskyi-10-zhovtnia\/\">healthcare facility<\/a> at the maternity ward in Mrauk-U, which is under the control of the Arakan Army. Part of the building collapsed as a result of the explosion.<\/p>\n<p>A seven-day-old baby girl was among the dead. According to humanitarian worker Vai Hong Aung, the child was due to return home the following day but was killed under the rubble of the collapsed building.<\/p>\n<p>Her twin survived. Four other people, including medical staff, died along with the baby.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/world\/houthi-yemen-highlands-us-strikes\/\">Air strikes<\/a> They also damaged a bridge in the Kyautko area and facilities in the Kyautpyu and Paukto areas.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #111111; font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 27px;\">Soldiers attacked a school whilst lessons were in progress<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>A separate air strike took place on 31 October in the town of Loiko, in Kayah State, near the border with Thailand. According to the human rights organisation Karenni Human Rights Group, the military air force attacked a school where children were present.<\/p>\n<p>Three pupils were killed and a further five were injured.<\/p>\n<p>According to representatives of the local administration, a Y-12 transport aircraft and a fighter jet dropped more than 20 bombs on the school grounds. Local sources claim that there were no armed clashes or military movements in the vicinity of the school.<\/p>\n<p>Secretary of the Provisional Executive Council <strong>Karenni Banyaar Khun Aung<\/strong> described the attack on the school as a possible war crime and condemned the strikes on civilian targets.<\/p>\n<p>Reuters reports that a spokesperson for Myanmar\u2019s military-backed government did not respond to a request for comment. The country\u2019s authorities had previously stated that their military operations were directed against terrorist groups.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #111111; font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 27px;\">Fighting is drawing closer to the Thai border<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The escalation of hostilities also poses a threat to neighbouring states. According to a government statement <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/world\/mzs-rf-poradylo-rosiyanam-ne-yizdyty-do-tailandu\/\">Thailand<\/a>, as a result of the conflict spilling over the border, residential buildings were damaged and at least one person was injured on Thai territory.<\/p>\n<p>Thailand has deployed fighter jets to carry out air patrols of its border areas.<\/p>\n<p>The country\u2019s Prime Minister <strong>Anutin Charnvirakul<\/strong> stated that Bangkok had urged Myanmar to exercise caution to ensure that the fighting did not spill over into Thai territory.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #111111; font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 27px;\">The civil war in Myanmar has been going on for more than five years<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Myanmar has been in a state of widespread internal conflict since the military coup in February 2021, when the army ousted Aung San Suu Kyi\u2019s elected government.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, the military has been engaged in combat operations against pro-democracy forces and numerous ethnic armed groups. A significant part of the country\u2019s territory is outside the control of the central government.<\/p>\n<p>According to UN estimates, around 100,000 people have died as a result of the conflict, and more than 3.5 million have been forced to flee their homes.<\/p>\n<p>In August 2026, UN investigators accused the Myanmar military of deliberately carrying out air strikes on civilian buildings, including schools and hospitals. The country\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated at the time that the army was allegedly doing its utmost to avoid civilian casualties.<\/p>\n<p>As of 2 November, local human rights activists continue to document the latest air strikes.
