A further 21 generators will be distributed to 12 local authorities in other regions of the country. The equipment is intended to enhance the resilience of water supply and sewerage systems against Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. At the same time, the Kyiv City Administration warns that ten generators are not sufficient to ensure the autonomous operation of Kyiv\u2019s entire water supply system.<\/p>\n<div class=\"news-summary-box\"><strong>Briefly about the main points<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The government will provide Kyiv with 10 additional generators to keep the water supply system running.<\/li>\n<li>A further 21 backup power supplies will be provided to 12 communities in other regions.<\/li>\n<li>The equipment will be funded from the reserve fund as part of the state programme for mobile power generation.<\/li>\n<li>The Kyiv City State Administration has warned that the generators will not be able to keep the entire water supply system running independently.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2>The government is providing generators to Kyiv and 12 other local authorities<\/h2>\n<p>According to the head of government, the backup power supplies will be provided using funds from the state budget\u2019s reserve fund as part of the programme to provide communities with mobile power generation.<\/p>\n<p>The main objective is to ensure that water supply and sewerage services continue to operate during power cuts caused by Russian shelling.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00abPeople should not be left without a water supply every time there are Russian attacks on the power grid,\u00bb Koretsky emphasised.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Prime Minister also called on local authorities to ensure that the equipment received is installed and connected as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>The government has not yet announced the exact dates for the delivery of the generators to the capital or the list of sites where they will be installed.<\/p>\n<h2>The Kyiv City State Administration has explained why ten generators will not be enough to supply water to the whole of Kyiv<\/h2>\n<p>At a press briefing on 5 November, the acting First Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration <strong>Petro Panteleev<\/strong> He clarified that the government-supplied equipment would help to provide electricity to certain parts of the water supply system.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, significantly more powerful power sources are required for large pumping stations to operate fully autonomously.<\/p>\n<p>In particular, generators cannot replace the 40 MW backup power stations that are planned for the capital\u2019s water supply system.<\/p>\n<p>The Kyiv City State Administration notes that some facilities consume so much electricity that it is impossible to power them using a single generator.<\/p>\n<p>Additional installations will reduce the dependence of individual components of the water supply network on the centralised electricity supply.<\/p>\n<h2>Following the Russian attacks, Kyiv was already without water<\/h2>\n<p>The government\u2019s decision was taken following yet another series of major disruptions to the capital\u2019s infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/suspilstvo\/enerhosystema-kyivshchyny-ruinuvannia-pidstantsii\/\">Russian attacks on the power grid<\/a> In early November, parts of Kyiv were still without electricity and water supplies.<\/p>\n<p>The power cut to the pumping equipment has affected the water supply to residential buildings, particularly high-rise blocks, where additional pumps are used to maintain the required pressure.<\/p>\n<p>On 4 November, the city authorities announced that the water supply had been restored and that the pumping stations were back to normal operation.<\/p>\n<p>Despite this, there remains a risk of further disruptions due to ongoing attacks on energy infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Kyiv City State Administration, as of early November, over a hundred generators are already in use in Kyiv to support the water supply and drainage systems. Reserve generating capacity totalling 16 MW has also been established.<\/p>\n<p>The city is continuing to expand its alternative power generation capacity, which is intended to keep critical infrastructure running during prolonged power cuts.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst ten government-owned generators are being prepared for handover, the city authorities must identify the sites where they are to be
