Initial reports suggested that the fire might have started at the factory itself, but Russian emergency services later clarified that it was a warehouse containing lubricants and polymers that was alight. The fire spread rapidly through the building, and thick plumes of smoke rose above the scene, visible from the surrounding areas. Footage shared on social media shows intense flames rising above the roof of the industrial building.<\/p>\n<p>Rescue workers reported a risk of the fire spreading to neighbouring buildings. Firefighting efforts were hampered by the large quantity of flammable materials inside the warehouse. More than 60 emergency service personnel and 23 pieces of equipment were deployed to bring the fire under control.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequently, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that the fire had been contained within an area of 8,000 square metres. The spread of the flames to neighbouring buildings was successfully prevented.<\/p>\n<h2>The first reports concerned the \u00abAlmaz\u00bb defence factory\u00bb<\/h2>\n<p>At the start of the fire, the Exilenova+ Telegram monitoring channel reported a blaze in the vicinity of the \u00abAlmaz\u00bb factory in Rostov. The factory is part of the Russian state-owned concern \u00ab<a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/world\/serpukhov-75-arsenal-ataka-zavod-ppo\/\">Rostec<\/a>\u00bb and specialises in the manufacture of military communications systems, radio-electronic equipment and specialised communications equipment. The plant also carries out repairs to military equipment.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequent reports from the Russian emergency services indicate a fire in a separate warehouse building. There has been no confirmation of the production buildings at \u00abAlmaz\u00bb being directly affected.<\/p>\n<p>The fires were caused by an attack by Ukrainian UAVs.<\/p>\n<h2>The large-scale fire was the second in the last month<\/h2>\n<p>This is the second major warehouse fire in the Rostov Region in the space of a few weeks. On 13 October, a fire broke out in the warehouses of the \u00abAksaykardan-Detal\u00bb company in the town of Aksay, which manufactures metal components and parts for motor vehicles and specialised machinery.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, the fire spread across around 9,000 square metres, and a wall in one of the buildings collapsed during the blaze. Over a hundred firefighters were called in to tackle the blaze.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the new fire in Rostov, the Russian authorities have only reported the location of the fire, its size and the progress of the fire-fighting operation.
