Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed damage to energy facilities in the Kyiv and Zhytomyr regions and described the capital\u2019s energy supply situation as extremely difficult. Against the backdrop of the electricity shortage, problems have arisen with the operation of public utilities, whilst public transport remains dependent on the stability of the electricity grid.<\/p>\n<div class=\"news-summary-box\"><strong>Briefly about the main points<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Night-time strikes damaged energy infrastructure in the Kyiv and Zhytomyr regions.<\/li>\n<li>Klitschko described the situation regarding the capital\u2019s energy supply as extremely difficult.<\/li>\n<li>There have been disruptions to the electricity supply, water supply and heating systems in Kyiv.<\/li>\n<li>Urban electric transport relies on a stable voltage supply; there may be disruption to services.<\/li>\n<li>Following a night-time attack, the North Bridge has been damaged and traffic has been temporarily suspended.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2>The energy crisis has worsened following overnight attacks in Kyiv<\/h2>\n<p>Russian troops carried out several waves of attacks overnight <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/main-news\/ataka-kyiv-7-lystopada-balistyka-enerhetyka\/\">ballistic strikes<\/a> across the capital region. Explosions were heard in Kyiv and its suburbs, and the city authorities confirmed that the attack was directed against infrastructure facilities. Energy facilities in the Kyiv and Zhytomyr regions, which are linked to the capital\u2019s electricity supply, sustained damage.<\/p>\n<p>On the morning of 7 November <strong>Vitali Klitschko<\/strong> reported that this had had serious consequences for the city\u2019s utility networks. Damage to the power grid had disrupted heating and water supply services, and power company staff and emergency teams had begun repair work.<\/p>\n<p>The day before, on 6 November, the situation had already become more complicated following the Russian <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/viyna\/ataka-zhytomyrshchyna-enerhetyka-kyiv-6-lystopada\/\">an attack on an energy facility<\/a> in Zhytomyr. At that time, water pressure in the Kyiv water supply network dropped, and some of Kyivvodokanal\u2019s pumping stations were switched to generator power. A new night-time attack caused further damage to the energy infrastructure that supplies the capital region.<\/p>\n<h2>Power cuts have affected the water supply and public transport<\/h2>\n<p>The operation of water supply pumping stations, heating equipment and public electric transport depends directly on a stable electricity supply. Following damage to the power grid, some equipment requires a backup power supply, and utility services are forced to restore the systems\u2019 operation gradually.<\/p>\n<p>In the capital, metro, tram and trolleybus services have already been suspended due to a power shortage on the grid. During previous emergency power cuts, Kyivpastrans introduced replacement bus services to ensure passengers could still travel. The Mayor of Kyiv had previously explained that it is impossible to fully power public transport using backup generators due to the significant demand for electricity.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the exact list of metro routes and sections where services were restricted following the night-time attack on 7 November requires separate operational confirmation.<\/p>\n<h2>The North Bridge has been damaged; traffic is restricted in both directions<\/h2>\n<p>In addition to strikes on energy infrastructure, the Russian attack resulted in <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/viyna\/pivnichnyi-mist-kyiv-poshkodzheno-7-lystopada\/\">damage to the North Bridge<\/a>, which connects the banks of the Dnieper in Kyiv. Vitali Klitschko has announced that the bridge is temporarily closed to traffic in both directions, whilst experts are inspecting its structure and assessing the extent of the damage.<\/p>\n<p>The closure of one of the capital\u2019s key transport links is placing an additional strain on other routes between the right and left banks. The city authorities have not yet announced when traffic will resume.<\/p>\n<p>According to the mayor\u2019s latest morning update, as a result of the attack in Kyiv <strong>five people were injured<\/strong>, including a 14-year-old child. Two of the injured were taken to hospital. In the Solomyanskiy district, residential buildings and civilian infrastructure have been
