The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has warned against concluding a wide-ranging agreement on European security with Russia until the war against Ukraine has ended. According to him, it is first necessary to agree on a ceasefire, establish reliable security guarantees for Kyiv, and only then move on to broader agreements between Europe and Moscow. The head of state made these remarks in an interview with CNN ahead of the trilateral talks between Ukraine, the US and Russia, scheduled for 10\u201311 November in Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n
During a conversation with a CNN journalist Jake Tapper<\/strong> The Ukrainian president commented on the US administration\u2019s initiative to establish a new security framework between Europe and Russia. This issue was discussed during preparations for the talks, which involved representatives of Donald Trump \u2014 Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.<\/p>\n \u00abThe American side wanted to discuss the idea of a European-Russian security architecture. For me, this is not straightforward, and it could be dangerous,\u00bb said Zelenskyy.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n The President emphasised that Moscow has so far failed to demonstrate a willingness to take concrete steps to end the war. Ukraine, he said, supports the possibility of a full or partial ceasefire, particularly with regard to energy infrastructure and hostilities at sea. However, the Russian side has not yet agreed to such arrangements.<\/p>\n Zelenskyy believes it is dangerous to begin negotiations on revising the European security system whilst leaving the issue of Russian aggression against Ukraine unresolved. In his view, such an approach poses risks not only to Kyiv but also to the Member States of the European Union.<\/p>\n The Ukrainian President has proposed three successive stages for future agreements. The first should be to define the conditions for ending the war. The second would be the establishment of effective security guarantees to protect Ukraine from a repeat Russian invasion. Only then can a new security architecture between Europe and Russia be discussed.<\/p>\n At the same time, Washington is considering a broader framework for agreements. Following a meeting with a Russian representative Donald Trump by Kirill Dmitriev<\/strong> suggested the possibility of a major agreement that would affect not only Ukraine but the whole of the European continent.<\/p>\n Zelenskyy warned against repeating the principles of the 1945 Yalta Conference, when the major powers determined the post-war order in Europe.<\/p>\n \u00abWe do not want a \u00bbYalta-2\u2019.
