The US leader described such actions as \u00abextortion at the highest level\u00bb and publicly instructed the Department of Justice to launch an immediate investigation. He also claims that Democratic politicians have sent threatening letters to people whom the President considers innocent.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00abThis is extortion of the highest order, and they must be held to account,\u00bb said Trump.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>At the end of his post, the president stated that he was instructing the Ministry of Justice to immediately investigate any possible unlawful actions by the Democrats. However, he did not disclose any evidence of threats of imprisonment solely on the basis of political beliefs.<\/p>\n<h2>Democrats are preparing an inquiry following their election victory<\/h2>\n<p>Trump\u2019s statement came a few days after <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/main-news\/demokraty-bilshist-konhres-ssha-vybory-2026\/\">by-elections<\/a> 3 November, following the results of which the Democratic Party gained control of the House of Representatives and the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>The new Congress will take office in January 2027. The Democrats have already announced their intention to strengthen parliamentary scrutiny of the Trump administration\u2019s activities, in particular by scrutinising officials\u2019 decisions, financial transactions and the use of public funds.<\/p>\n<p>Member of Congress <strong>Robert Garc\u00eda<\/strong>, who may chair the House of Representatives\u2019 Oversight Committee, publicly advised members of the administration after the election to prepare for legal scrutiny.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers have also submitted requests for documents relating to donations made by technology companies towards the construction of the new White House ballroom.<\/p>\n<p>Such enquiries and parliamentary investigations fall within the remit of Congress. In themselves, they do not constitute evidence of a criminal offence.<\/p>\n<h2>Senator Slotkin has rejected the President\u2019s allegations<\/h2>\n<p>In his post, Trump paid particular attention to the Senator from Michigan <strong>Elissi Slotkin<\/strong>. He accused her of intending to persecute young people who hold republican views.<\/p>\n<p>The criticism stemmed from Slotkin\u2019s speech at the University of Chicago in October. At the time, the senator spoke of the need to investigate possible misconduct by those involved in implementing the Trump administration\u2019s policies.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, the potential liability for unlawful actions should encourage future civil servants to take a more careful approach to the decisions they agree to be involved in implementing.<\/p>\n<p>Slotkin rejected the interpretation that her words constituted threats against people on the basis of their political beliefs. In response to the President\u2019s statement, she emphasised that those who break the law or use taxpayers\u2019 money for personal gain must be held accountable.<\/p>\n<h2>The Ministry of Justice has not yet confirmed that new proceedings have been initiated<\/h2>\n<p>Reuters notes that the US Department of Justice has not provided an immediate response to an enquiry regarding the presidential directive. Therefore, Trump\u2019s public statement does not yet constitute confirmed evidence that criminal proceedings have been opened against specific members of the Democratic Party.<\/p>\n<p>The agency had previously conducted an investigation into Slotkin and other lawmakers who had called on military personnel not to carry out unlawful orders. At that time, the grand jury refused to support the bringing of charges.<\/p>\n<p>The current standoff is unfolding on the eve of a change in the parliamentary majority in Washington. The Democrats are preparing to investigate the activities of the presidential administration, whilst Trump is demanding that the legality of his political opponents\u2019 statements and actions be
