This is significantly more than the government's previous estimate of about $38 billion.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"433\" data-end=\"455\">What we know so far<\/h3>\n<ul data-start=\"457\" data-end=\"1640\">\n<li data-start=\"457\" data-end=\"613\">\n<p data-start=\"459\" data-end=\"613\">Following the talks with the IMF mission, the Kyiv government was forced to raise its expectations for external financing.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"614\" data-end=\"791\">\n<p data-start=\"616\" data-end=\"791\">The IMF is planning to offer a new lending programme for a period of 4 years, and its start may be discussed as early as autumn or at the end of the year.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"792\" data-end=\"976\">\n<p data-start=\"794\" data-end=\"976\">Although the total need is estimated at $$65bn, the official size of the new IMF loan has not yet been approved. Preliminary estimates are around $8bn.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"977\" data-end=\"1144\">\n<p data-start=\"979\" data-end=\"1144\">Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko said that there are already gaps in the 2026 budget: this year alone, there is a shortfall of $18.1 billion.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1145\" data-end=\"1334\">\n<p data-start=\"1147\" data-end=\"1334\">The reason for the increase in forecasts is that the war is dragging on, and the costs of defence, logistics and social obligations remain huge.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1335\" data-end=\"1480\">\n<p data-start=\"1337\" data-end=\"1480\">Only about a third of the $65bn has been secured so far -
