NABU and SAPO demand arrest or bail of UAH 45 million for Energoatom defendant Basov<\/h2>\n

National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU)<\/strong> and Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO)<\/strong> filed a motion with the court to impose a preventive measure Dmitry Basov<\/strong>, one of the defendants corruption case at Energoatom\u201c<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The prosecution demands detention for a period of 60 days<\/strong> or making collateral in the amount of UAH 45.4 million<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u00abWe insist on imposing the most severe measure of restraint, given the gravity of the crime and the risks of influencing witnesses,\u00bb a representative of the prosecutor's office said during the hearing.<\/p>\n

Dmitry Basov<\/strong> is one of the key players in the a high-profile case of corruption in the energy sector<\/strong>, related to a state-owned enterprise \u201cEnergoatom\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The investigation suspects that he participated in schemes to inflate prices for equipment and receive kickbacks\u201c<\/strong> through controlled companies.
According to media reports, some of the funds were transferred abroad, in particular to the accounts of firms linked to energy officials.<\/p>\n

Public reaction<\/h3>\n

The scandal around Energoatom has become one of the of the largest anti-corruption investigations of the year<\/strong>.
As a reminder, earlier Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko<\/strong> announced relaunch of the company<\/strong> and full audit of its activities<\/strong> after the facts of abuse were made public.<\/p>\n
