Nordic and Baltic countries allocate $500 million for arms procurement for Ukraine under PURL initiative<\/h2>\n

The Nordic and Baltic countries - including Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Iceland - have announced joint funding for a package of $500 million<\/strong> for the purchase of US weapons systems for Ukraine. This is being done under the PURL (Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List) initiative with NATO's assistance.<\/p>\n

Details of the initiative<\/h2>\n

The participating countries committed to purchase US weapons from US reserves and then transfer them to Ukraine. The package is reportedly worth approximately $500 million.
The PURL initiative was created to accelerate the supply of critical equipment to Ukraine, including air defence systems, missiles and ammunition, where the need is greatest.
Representatives of the donor countries stressed that the speed and volume of supplies are key to the success of Ukraine's defence.<\/p>\n

Context.<\/h2>\n

The PURL initiative is part of a broader approach by NATO and Western nations to coordinate military support to Ukraine in response to a full-scale invasion by Russia.
Earlier, similar aid packages were announced by other countries, including the Netherlands, which was the first to join the mechanism with a \u20ac500 million contribution.
