Ukraine and the IMF agree on a new 4-year support programme worth over $8 billion<\/h2>\n

Ukraine and the International Monetary Fund have reached an agreement on a new a four-year support programme<\/strong>. This was announced by the Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko<\/strong>, The aid package will help cover critical budget expenditures and support the country's economic resilience in the face of war.<\/p>\n

The program must still receive the approval of the IMF Board of Executive Directors.<\/p>\n

Amount and structure of funding<\/h2>\n

The total potential size of the programme is in the range of Extended Fund Facility (EFF)<\/strong> will be SDR 5.94 billion<\/strong> (about $8.1 billion<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

The Foundation expects this programme to a catalyst for attracting large-scale external support<\/strong> by partner countries in 2026-2029.<\/p>\n

Key priorities of the programme<\/h2>\n

The EFF package includes a number of strategic areas:<\/p>\n

    Maintaining macroeconomic stability<\/strong>, The NBU is committed to curbing inflation and maintaining the stability of the financial system.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Strengthening debt and external economic resilience<\/strong>, including work on medium-term debt repayment.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Fighting corruption and improving governance<\/strong>, This is a condition for receiving the next tranches.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Improving the efficiency of public finances<\/strong> and the continuation of structural reforms.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The IMF emphasises that Ukraine is making progress in fulfilling its previous commitments, which has allowed it to move on to agreeing a new programme.<\/p>\n

    Why it matters<\/h2>\n

    The government estimates that Ukraine's external financing needs for 2026-2029 will remain significant due to the effects of the war, infrastructure reconstruction, and the need to maintain defence spending.
