This is reported by the publication <em><strong data-start=\"556\" data-end=\"568\">Politico<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"571\" data-end=\"737\">The loan is a key part of a wider financing package of <strong data-start=\"633\" data-end=\"653\">up to EUR 210 billion<\/strong>, which should support Ukraine's budget and accelerate the development of the defence industry.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"739\" data-end=\"762\">What the funds will be used for<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"763\" data-end=\"816\">According to Politico, the preliminary distribution looks like this:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"818\" data-end=\"1013\">\n<li data-start=\"818\" data-end=\"884\">\n<p data-start=\"820\" data-end=\"884\"><strong data-start=\"820\" data-end=\"837\">115 billion euros<\/strong> - for defence and arms production;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"885\" data-end=\"937\">\n<p data-start=\"887\" data-end=\"937\"><strong data-start=\"887\" data-end=\"903\">50 billion euros<\/strong> - to cover budgetary needs;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"938\" data-end=\"1013\">\n<p data-start=\"940\" data-end=\"1013\"><strong data-start=\"940\" data-end=\"956\">45 billion euros<\/strong> - for the repayment of the G7 loan provided earlier in 2024.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1015\" data-end=\"1227\">At the same time, the loan mechanism stipulates that Ukraine will repay the funds <strong data-start=\"1083\" data-end=\"1114\">only after the war ended<\/strong> and only if Russia pays reparations. The EU acknowledges that such a scenario is currently considered unlikely.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1229\" data-end=\"1253\">Political obstacles<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1254\" data-end=\"1446\">The main deterrent is the position of the <strong data-start=\"1296\" data-end=\"1307\">Belgium<\/strong>, which requires clear guarantees in case Russia tries to recover its assets through international courts or diplomatic mechanisms.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1448\" data-end=\"1622\">Nevertheless, the European Commission is preparing to grant Ukraine <strong data-start=\"1503\" data-end=\"1561\">emergency interim funding at the beginning of the year<\/strong>, to avoid budget deficits and stopping critical programmes.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1624\" data-end=\"1637\">Context.<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1638\" data-end=\"1861\">This is one of the largest financial support packages for Ukraine in the EU's history.
