The European Union does not recognise the legitimacy of the regime Nicolas Maduro<\/strong>, while calling for a democratic and peaceful solution to the political crisis in Venezuela. This is stated in a joint statement by 26 EU countries, published by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaya Kallas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The statement emphasises that the EU continues to maintain its principled position on the lack of democratic legitimacy of the current government in Venezuela. At the same time, Brussels calls on all parties to engage in political dialogue as the only way to stabilise the situation in the country.<\/p>\n The European Union stressed that any action by the international community should be carried out exclusively within the framework of international law and with respect for the sovereignty of states.<\/p>\n The statement placed special emphasis on the need to combat transnational organised crime and drug trafficking, which have a regional and global impact. The EU announced coordination with United States<\/strong> and other international partners to facilitate political dialogue in Venezuela.<\/p>\n The European Union also called for Unconditional release of all political prisoners<\/strong> in Venezuela, stressing that respect for human rights is a key condition for any progress towards a democratic solution to the crisis.<\/p>\n The political crisis in Venezuela has been going on for several years now, amid disputed elections, international sanctions, economic downturn and massive migration.
