Such discussions have intensified following a series of statements by US politicians, as well as the protracted war in Ukraine and global instability.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"792\" data-end=\"837\">Why Europe is talking about a \u00abnew reality\u00bb<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"839\" data-end=\"993\">A few years ago, Europe's security architecture was almost entirely based on <strong data-start=\"917\" data-end=\"954\">NATO and the US military presence<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"955\" data-end=\"958\" \/>However, the war in Ukraine has shown that:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"995\" data-end=\"1179\">\n<li data-start=\"995\" data-end=\"1050\">\n<p data-start=\"997\" data-end=\"1050\">large-scale conflicts in Europe are possible again;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1051\" data-end=\"1112\">\n<p data-start=\"1053\" data-end=\"1112\">the speed of allied decisions does not always match the threats;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1113\" data-end=\"1179\">\n<p data-start=\"1115\" data-end=\"1179\">EU countries need to <strong data-start=\"1135\" data-end=\"1178\">invest significantly more in their own defence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1181\" data-end=\"1283\">That is why the idea is increasingly being voiced in Brussels:<br data-start=\"1231\" data-end=\"1234\" \/><strong data-start=\"1234\" data-end=\"1283\">Europe must be ready to act on its own.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1285\" data-end=\"1310\">What exactly may change<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1312\" data-end=\"1408\">It's not just about increasing military budgets.<br data-start=\"1363\" data-end=\"1366\" \/>Much deeper transformations are discussed:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1410\" data-end=\"1626\">\n<li data-start=\"1410\" data-end=\"1466\">\n<p data-start=\"1412\" data-end=\"1466\">creation of a common European defence industry;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1467\" data-end=\"1516\">\n<p data-start=\"1469\" data-end=\"1516\">coordinating the production of weapons and ammunition;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1517\" data-end=\"1563\">\n<p data-start=\"1519\" data-end=\"1563\">strengthening border protection and cybersecurity;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1564\" data-end=\"1626\">\n<p data-start=\"1566\" data-end=\"1626\">The new role of the EU as a <strong data-start=\"1582\" data-end=\"1625\">an independent geopolitical centre of power<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1628\" data-end=\"1716\">In fact, we are talking about <strong data-start=\"1646\" data-end=\"1715\">the biggest change in Europe's security policy since the Cold War<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1718\" data-end=\"1747\">How it relates to Ukraine<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1749\" data-end=\"1828\">The war was the main catalyst for change.<br data-start=\"1789\" data-end=\"1792\" \/>It was the Ukrainian resistance that forced Europe's hand:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1830\" data-end=\"1974\">\n<li data-start=\"1830\" data-end=\"1867\">\n<p data-start=\"1832\" data-end=\"1867\">sharply increase defence spending;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1868\" data-end=\"1911\">\n<p data-start=\"1870\" data-end=\"1911\">reconsider the attitude to EU enlargement;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1912\" data-end=\"1974\">\n<p data-start=\"1914\" data-end=\"1974\">return the subject <strong data-start=\"1929\" data-end=\"1956\">continental security<\/strong> to the centre of politics.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1976\" data-end=\"2063\">This is increasingly recognised in Brussels:<br data-start=\"2011\" data-end=\"2014\" \/><strong data-start=\"2014\" data-end=\"2063\">Without a strong Ukraine, there will be no secure Europe.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"2065\" data-end=\"2091\">What it means for the world<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2093\" data-end=\"2206\">If Europe really becomes more independent in the military and political sense, it will change the global balance of power:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2208\" data-end=\"2359\">\n<li data-start=\"2208\" data-end=\"2252\">\n<p data-start=\"2210\" data-end=\"2252\">The US will be able to focus more on Asia;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2253\" data-end=\"2298\">\n<p data-start=\"2255\" data-end=\"2298\">China will get a new strong competitor;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2299\" data-end=\"2359\">\n<p data-start=\"2301\" data-end=\"2359\">Russia will face a tougher and more united Europe.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2361\" data-end=\"2466\">In fact, it is formed <strong data-start=\"2381\" data-end=\"2417\">A new global security architecture<\/strong>, The EU will play a much bigger role than before.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"2468\" data-end=\"2488\">The main conclusion<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2490\" data-end=\"2611\">The world is entering a period of great change, and Europe is preparing for the first time in decades <strong data-start=\"2569\" data-end=\"2610\">live under the constant threat of war<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2613\" data-end=\"2710\">And it depends on how quickly it can change <strong data-start=\"2680\"
