As a result, a significant number of American industries have been closed, and the country has become heavily dependent on imports.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"614\" data-end=\"617\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"619\" data-end=\"653\">\u00abA \u00bbcostly mistake\" for the economy<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"655\" data-end=\"773\">Rubio called this policy a \u00abstupid idea\u00bb that ignored historical experience and basic patterns of state development.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"775\" data-end=\"823\">In his opinion, deindustrialisation has led to:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"825\" data-end=\"1008\">\n<li data-start=\"825\" data-end=\"877\">\n<p data-start=\"827\" data-end=\"877\">the loss of millions of middle-class jobs;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"878\" data-end=\"916\">\n<p data-start=\"880\" data-end=\"916\">transferring production abroad;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"917\" data-end=\"1008\">\n<p data-start=\"919\" data-end=\"1008\">transfer of control over critical supply chains to competitors and adversaries of the West.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1010\" data-end=\"1116\">According to the Secretary of State, these processes have had long-term negative consequences for the US economic security.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1118\" data-end=\"1121\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"1123\" data-end=\"1146\">Geopolitical dimension<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1148\" data-end=\"1260\">In parallel with the weakening of the industrial base of the West, China and Russia have been actively building up their own production capacities.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1262\" data-end=\"1374\">This allowed them to strengthen their economic positions and gain additional tools of influence in global competition.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1376\" data-end=\"1379\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"1381\" data-end=\"1402\">Lessons for Ukraine<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1404\" data-end=\"1563\">Experts note that similar conclusions are relevant for Ukraine, especially in the context of war and the need to rapidly develop the defence industry.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1565\" data-end=\"1693\">Maintaining and expanding domestic production is seen as a key
